This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

Help
  • Prepare and monitor patients during polysomnographic tests.
  • Interpret data obtained from tests to organize and prepare completed patient charts.
  • Prepare, calibrate, interface, and operate all equipment used in polysomnographic procedures.
  • Participate in continuing in-service education programs.
  • Apply electroencephalogram (EEG) electrodes, electro-oculogram (EOG), electromyogram (EHG) and electrocardiogram (ECG) and ensure patient comfort and proper function.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A one-year probationary period may be required.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis
  • The incumbent must have and maintain Registered Polysomnography Technologist (RPSGT) credential within 18 months of employment. The credential is offered through the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT).
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting up to 50lbs in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position has been designated mission essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • The duties of this position may require the incumbent to carry a cell phone and be on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week on a rotational basis, based on the needs of the organization.

Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing and analyzing respiratory therapy polysomnography tests. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).



OR

Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Respiratory Therapy. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
