Duties

Help
  • Operate the hazardous waste accumulation point which involves the inspection, receipt, transport, and storage of hazardous materiel and waste.
  • Receive and determine acceptability for a large variety of materials and equipment to include drugs, biological and reagents; surgical and dental instruments and trays; medical/instrument/supply sets; and other hospital medical items.
  • Perform on-site pre-receipt inspection of materiel to ensure that the turn-in documentation is in order; the container is non-leaking and safe to handle; and the materiel is properly identified and labeled.
  • Accompanied by Destruction Officer and a witness, transport items to destruction site and destroy (i.e. burns, buries, etc.) using proper methods of disposal and safety regulations.
  • Conduct monthly surveys of entire warehouse by checking expiration dates and for obvious broken, crushed, deteriorated, ripped, etc. items.
  • Inform Materiel Management personnel of decreases in stock levels resulting from the disposition/destruction of expired items.
  • Receive materiel complaints and priority messages from user, customer or manufacturer concerning item suitability.
  • Operate a fork lift and stock picker of from 2,000-4,000 pounds to load, unload, stock, and move boxes, crates, packages, pallets, or loose items.
  • Operate a motor vehicle up to 3/4 ton capacity pickup to transport supplies and materials.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Material Examiner And Identifier (Fork Lift Operator) ~ without more than normal supervision. ??The ability to perform common Material Examiner And Identifier (Fork Lift Operator) tasks. Handle, store and dispose of hazardous items. Stack, store, and palletize items in a storage area. Conduct physical inventories. Complete documentation for receiving and shipping items. Work under supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion make sure they are properly performed.

  • Physical Effort: Work requires continuous standing, walking and stooping. Frequently lifts, carries and moves objects weighing in excess of 70 pounds. Must be able to work wearing a full-face respirator.
  • Working Conditions: Work is performed inside warehouses with open, flammable, acid, and hazardous waste storage areas; and on receiving and shipping docks. The areas may be cold, drafty, damp or hot. Injury is possible from falling or dropped stock. Incumbent is subject to cuts, bruises and lacerations. Is required to work with hazardous materiel and waste requiring safety equipment such as respirators, gloves, boots, safety glasses, etc.
