Duties

Help

As a Supervisory Personnel Security Specialist at the GS-0080-14 grade level, some of your typical work assignments may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Supervising a team of personnel security specialists including evaluating performance, conducting interviews, and resolving complaints.
  • Initiating and tracking pre-employment investigations of applicants and determining suitability and security clearance eligibility of the applicants and support personnel for entry into USMS contract positions.
  • Advising and assisting USMS managers on background and suitability program matters.
  • Develops short and long range plans for the management of human material resources to achieve program objectives.
  • Attends meetings with and senior level officials within USMS, DOJ, and other federal agencies to inform and stay abreast of matters regarding personnel security.

  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.
  • This is a Testing Designated Positions (TDP) and is subject to random drug testing.
  • May be required to successfully complete a supervisory probation period.
  • Status Candidates must meet time-in-grade requirements (52 weeks at the next lower grade level).

Qualifications

TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Merit Promotion and Veterans Employment Opportunity Act (VEOA) Status applicants must provide an SF50 Notice of Personnel Action that indicates proof of status and time-in-grade eligibility. The SF50 must include the position, title, series, grade, step, tenure, type of service (Competitive or Excepted) and career status (career or career-conditional). No award SF50 will be accepted as proof of status and time-in-grade eligibility.

- One year at the GS-13 grade level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-14 grade level.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the education and/or experience required for the grade level(s) to which you apply.

To qualify at the GS-14 grade level, you must meet the following:

Specialized Experience: Experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. You must have at least one year (12 months) of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service performing the following duties:

  1. Providing technical and procedural advice regarding background or suitability investigations to personnel security specialists, managers, or support staff;
  2. Evaluating program performance related to personnel security policies and/or procedures for effectiveness;
  3. Coordinating with related security program offices to achieve comprehensive organizational security goals and objectives; AND
  4. Investigating applicants and determining suitability and security clearance eligibility of personnel or contract positions
