Duties

Help
  • Brushes clean and vacuums coils, fan, squirrel cage, blower assemblies, motor, drip pan and condensate line (on units used for air conditioning).
  • Lubricates motors that do not have sealed bearings. Replaces air filter(s) ensuring there are no air leaks. If filters are washable, washes thoroughly, removing all dirt and grime, thoroughly rinses and reinstalls.
  • Checks all structural, mechanical and electrical (including wiring) for integrity and function ability. Problems (including function ability) are to be noted.
  • Cleans fresh air intake louvers, screen blowers, and motors by brush and vacuum to remove any accumulation of dirt and grime.
  • Lubricates shaft bearings, motor and damper motor when acceptable according to manufacturer's recommendations.
  • Brush, cleans, and vacuums coils and motor blower, drip pan, air intake louvers and condensate line to remove any accumulation of dust and grime.

  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a Government Driver's License to operate vehicles.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a universal certification for handling fluorocarbons (CFC's).
  • Incumbent is responsible for the proper handling, of specific hazardous wastes generated by the unit, activity or facility; operation of a hazardous waste generation point, and assisting in emergency action involving hazardous waste.
  • Operates motor vehicles from 1 ton to 2-1/2 tons and trucks with hydraulic cranes in the performance of duties above.
  • A periodic medical evaluation will be conducted by MEDDAC on respirator users annually.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 11.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Industrial Equipment Maintenance Worker ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common tasks of cleaning air vents and heating coils. I can use Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning cleaning supplies and devices. I can clean and oil equipment properly to ensure proper and safe operations. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort: The employee uses light to medium physical effort in performing work. The work requires some standing, stooping and walking and lifting of items weighing up to 50 pounds. Occasionally handles items weighing up to 100 pounds. Climbing stairs, ladders and working from lift platforms.


Working Conditions: A majority of the work is performed indoors and in cramped positions. However, some of the work may be performed outside. The incumbent is exposed chemicals when cleaning filters.
