This position is located in the U.S. Mint; Manufacturing Department; Philadelphia; Superintendent; Facilities Management Division; Utilities Section. As the manager of the Utilities Section of the Facilities Management Division and reports to the Facilities Management Division Chief, with responsibility for the design, installation, testing, troubleshooting, repair, monitoring, and preventative maintenance of all facilities related equipment and the physical plants at the Mint.

As a General Maintenance Supervisor, you will:

  • Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates. Set and adjust short-term priorities and prepare schedules for
    completion of work.
  • Assign work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of employees.
  • Hear and resolve complaints from employees, referring group grievances and more serious unresolved complaints to a higher-levels supervisor or manager.
  • Identify developmental and training needs of employees, provide or arrange needed development and trainings and suggest, new positions, additional contractors, or any other means of improving the Branch's abilities to maintain new additions to the facility to the Facilities Management Division Chief.

  • A one year supervisory or managerial probationary period may be required.
  • Must successfully complete a background investigation.
  • Public Trust - Background Investigation will be required.
  • Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency.
  • Have your salary sent to a financial institution of your choice by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.
  • If you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System or are exempt from having to do so.
  • Go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form I-9. Federal law requires verification of the identity and employment eligibility of all new hires in the U.S.

  • Shift Work: This facility operates on a 24 hour per day, three-shift basis. Assignment to a specific shift cannot be guaranteed. The successful applicant must be able to work all shifts on a rotational basis.
  • May be required to wear safety clothing and/or equipment required by the position. This may include safety shoes, hard hats, hearing protection, gloves, masks, etc.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements within 14 days of the closing date of this announcement.

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. Be sure all experience is documented in your resume by indicating place of employment, job title, length of time performing the duties, and the name and contact information for the supervisor. For the GS-13, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:

  • Managing or supervising a multi-disciplinary facilities or utilities workforce, including planning work, assigning tasks, setting priorities, evaluating performance, and addressing conduct or performance issues.; AND
  • Developing, planning, and implementing short- and long-term strategies related to facility operations, maintenance programs, energy conservation, environmental compliance, and equipment replacement. AND
  • Experience troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining major facility and utility systems such as HVAC, electrical distribution, wastewater treatment, plumbing, natural gas systems, or other complex physical plant infrastructure.


In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:
For the GS-13 you must have been at the GS-12level for 52 weeks.
