Duties

Help

  • Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of a Security Forces Flight, ensuring that personnel comply with legal and regulatory requirements and meets customer needs
  • Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities.
  • Represents the Security Forces Squadron with a variety of installation and functional area organizations
  • Performs and enforces the full range of police officer duties within the military installation
  • Manages Small Unmanned Aerial Systems (SUAS) Training Program for Police Officers.

  • This is a Mission-Essential position performing a Mission-Critical-Function which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions.
  • Position may require use firearms or ammunition; sell or dispose of firearms or ammunition; receive, possess, ship or transport firearms; or other activities covered by the Gun Control Act. Must have no convictions of a crime of domestic violence.
  • Must pass an initial pre-employment medical examination, periodic medical examinations, required initial and annual physical fitness/physical agility tests, meet established hearing standards and discern colors, contrast, and depth.
  • This position requires the performance of a Physical Agility Test which reflects the bona-fide occupational physical qualifications for the position.
  • The incumbent must wear a DAF Police Officer uniform as identified in the DAF Police AFI and required to meet dress and appearance standards when supporting non DoD agencies IAW the AFI.
  • Must work an uncommon tour of duty, to include nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, rotating shifts, and recall.
  • Incumbent must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to operate all security forces vehicles and installed equipment.
  • Subject to duty position evaluation on a pass/fail standard in accordance with AFI 36-2646, Security Forces Training And Standardization Evaluation Programs.
  • Must wear approved protective clothing such as body armor/ballistic plates, helmets, personal protective equipment, coats, boots, traffic vests and/or chemical protective equipment, (e.g. respirator mask).

Qualifications

Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Police Series. Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills. NOTE: Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement.

FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-­grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-08 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.

IDEAL CANDIDATE: The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of applicable law enforcement and security regulations (AF, Federal, and DoD), including force protection, integrated base defense, anti-terrorism, and physical security protocols. A thorough understanding of safety, security, and EEO practices is essential. This candidate will demonstrate proficiency in police officer procedures and operating methods, enabling independent execution of duties related to protection level resources, installation entry control, armed response, and dispatch. The ideal candidate will also possess the ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and staff of an organization, exercising sound supervisory personnel management responsibilities. Prior Security Forces experience is highly desired

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

  1. Knowledge of applicable law enforcement and security AF, Federal and DoD rules, regulations, instructions, practices, principles and procedures including force protection, integrated base defense, anti-terrorism and physical security.
  2. Knowledge of safety, security, and EEO regulations, practices, and procedures.
  3. Knowledge of police officer procedures and operating methods to perform the full range of police officer activities independently to include protection level resources, installation entry control, armed response and dispatch.
  4. Ability to operate the Incident Management System and the Security Force Management Information System.
  5. Ability to plan, organizes, and directs the functions and staff of an organization.
  6. Knowledge of aerial surveillance principles in order to ensure police officers can identify SUAS systems.
  7. Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
