Duties

Help
  • Serves as an Electronics Mechanic (Fire Alarm Systems) under the supervision of the Electrical Systems Supervisor for Department of Public Works.
  • Installs, maintains, trouble-shoots, adjusts, repairs and/or replaces all complex electronic equipment and operational systems such as Fire Alarm System, Fire Detection Systems, Central Monitoring Control Systems, and Mass Notification Systems.
  • Programs fire alarm systems, control panels, electronic devices, circuit modules, etc. with laptop computers using multiple types of software and operating systems.
  • Performs installation and maintenance with overlap skill areas in wire communications, electrical control devices, fire detection systems, emergency power, and critical control systems.
  • Installs conduit and wiring systems during installation of fire alarm systems, including connection to main electrical panels.

  • This position requires a valid state drivers license.
  • This position is mission essential and subject to scheduled/unscheduled overtime as well as emergency call back during non-duty hours.
  • This position requires a pre-employment physical examination; requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Required to observe established safe working procedures; and wear appropriate protective clothing (PPE) and/or equipment to minimize or eliminate hazardous conditions.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Electronics Mechanic (Fire Alarm Systems) ~ without more than normal supervision. he ability to perform tasks including: 1) Maintaining, inspecting, repairing, and configuring a fire reporting system; 2) Using automated software and operating systems to program fire alarm systems, panels, devices, and modules; 3) Performing system inspections, maintenance test or adjustments. Work under supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who reviews completion of work. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • The work is performed in small and cramped spaces, or at moderate heights in tiring and uncomfortable positions. You may be required to lift items weighing up to 50 pounds, and occasionally heavier. Moderate physical effort is used to operate the motor vehicle.
  • The work is predominantly inside, with some outside work during all types of weather. You may be subject to cuts, bruises, and broken bones when handling material or tools; and from falls from ladders. You may be subject to electric shock of up to 600 volts.
