Duties

Help
  • Responsible for the web page layout, design and copy editing of Stars and Stripes publications and content online.
  • Posts content onto web pages and sections in an electronic publishing system, to include all elements (stories, photos, videos, graphics).
  • Writes accurate, complete and interesting headlines, captions, teasers and photo cutlines.
  • Ensures that all text is free of spelling, grammar, and substantive errors, and that headlines and cutlines accurately state what is supported by the content of the story or photo.
  • Ensures that material is clearly presented and appropriate for the level of audience, and that conclusions are valid and supported.

  • A one-year probationary period may be required.

Qualifications

Resumes must be two pages (or less). Resumes should clearly demonstrate the applicant's relevant experience, skills, knowledge and abilities as they pertain to this position.

A qualified candidate must possess the following:

  • Three years of specialized work experience with a commercial news organization directly related to the duties described above.
  • Demonstrated work experience must include 1 year equivalent in complexity and difficulty to the next lower pay band level.

In addition to the above qualifications, candidates who possess the following qualifications will be considered "Highly Preferred" or "Best Qualified":
  • 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree and related work experience as described above.
OR
  • Specialized education or training in web-based, multimedia journalism. Specialized skills related to web design, development and enhancement, such as video or audio editing and HTML coding.

Qualifications must be clearly verifiable in your resume. Government positions must include pay plan, series, grade, to and from dates, and government agency/department.

Defense Media Activity

Healthcare Access and Availability:

  • If an employee brings a child to an overseas location and that child is entitled to attend a DoD school on a space-required basis in accordance with DoDEA Regulation 1342.13, the DoDEA and the Military Department responsible for providing related services will ensure that the child, if eligible for special education, receives a free appropriate public education, including related services pursuant to DoDI 1342.12 and DoDM 1342.12.
  • If an employee brings an infant or toddler (up to 3 years of age) to an overseas location, and that infant or toddler, but for the child's age, is entitled to attend the DoDEA on a space-required basis in accordance with DoDEA Regulation 1342.13, then the Military Department responsible for Early Intervention Services (EIS) will provide the infant or toddler with the required EIS in accordance with the eligibility criteria consistent with DoDI1342.12 and DoDM 1342.12.
  • Employees (and family members) who require medical or dental care in the overseas location will be responsible for obtaining and paying for such care. Access for civilian employees and their families to military medical and dental treatment facilities is on a space-available and reimbursable basis only.
