The United States Space Force (USSF) at Buckley Space Force Base, Denver Colorado is searching for a Technical Advisor to support 11 SWS (NH-0801-03, GS-12/13 equivalent).

Description:
Authoritative technical counsel to the commander and represents the organization on OPIR MW/MT operations, sustainment, development across infrastructure, software, hardware, network and cyber functions at all levels of government.

Conceives, plans, organizes and leads development of new concepts, principles and approaches to resolve critical weapon system issues. Provides technical direction, guidance and consultation to ensure compliance with established DoD, USSF, USSTRATCOM, USSPACECOM, and intelligence community mission needs and guidelines.

Lead coordination and integration of efforts in concert with the the Combat Squadron (Operations) leadership among external partners, contractors, acquisitions, and the broader mission-related community.

Gather enhancement requests from crew force and other stakeholders, compile and prioritize requests for developers.

Serves as the unit representative at numerous meetings to include the Agile Software Acceptance Process (ASAP) Working Group (ASAP WG), the Missile Warning Integration Initial Planning Team meeting, and a weekly Scheduling Updates to Ops designed to track new system deliveries or enhancements, software updates, deficiency fixes, etc.


Ideal Candidate:
Position serves as the Technical Director and senior technical authority/counsel to Commander, 11th Space Warning Squadron which is responsible for providing Space-based Infrared Missile Warning (MW) and Missile Tracking (MT). The Technical Director gives direct support to the Squadron Commander by serving as the technical expert for weapon system upgrades and new system deliveries. The Technical Director oversees the Capabilities Development Element (CDE), and serves as the primary link between the Combat Squadron and Force Generation Squadron, as well as contractor support management teams and service providers that help sustain the mission. The Technical Director helps the Commander accomplish the missions by overseeing engineering management and planning and maintenance scheduling.


Key Skills and Abilities:
1. Extensive engineering and system engineering principles, theories, concepts principles and practices in the space mission arena including space operations, space program management, weapon system maintenance, etc.
2. Detailed knowledge of regulations, policies, CONOPs, operating instructions, current legislative issues, other issues and procedures as they pertain to complex systems engineering, operational information and SBIRS weapons systems, operational analysis, operational issues supporting missile warning, missile defense, battlespace awareness and technical intelligence issues and policy matters.
3. Comprehensive knowledge of diversified, fundamental scientific and engineering concepts, phenomena (to include Infrared phenomenology) and relationships, and ability to apply such knowledge to theoretical and practical scientific and engineering problems with versatility, judgment and acute perception.
4. Skill and ability to lead technical multidisciplinary groups and resolve/solve highly complex technical issues in evaluating space based missile warning systems, future architecture (ground and space segment) technical evaluation, operational information systems and defining new, complex, advanced and high-risk programs.
5. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, negotiate complex issues, development maintain good working relationships, and to interact and operate effectively.
6. Ability to recognize and analyze problems, conduct research, summarize results, and make appropriate recommendations.
7. Ability to advise senior leaders and field-level representatives.

  • Safeguards classified or sensitive budget-related information and/or files.
  • May be required to work overtime on an unscheduled or emergency basis.
  • Eligible for situational telework only, including Emergency and OPM prescribed “Unscheduled Telework”.
  • This position will close after 5 business days or 75 applications, whichever comes first.
  • Employee may be required to perform travel by military or commercial passenger aircraft in the performance of temporary duty assignments.
  • PCS / relocation funding is not authorized.
  • This is a Critical Acquisition Position (CAP).
  • Subject to Temporary Duty Assignment (TDY): Approximately 15 days per year.
  • Due to contract interactions, the incumbent of this position is required to submit a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450, and to avoid the appearance of conflicts or actual conflicts of interest.
  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to pre-employment drug testing as a condition of employment, and participation in random drug testing.
  • Incumbents on this position may need to be removed from their military recall status if alternatives for filling the position during an emergency are not available.
