Summary

This position is assigned to the NAF Fitness Division MWR Department, Naval Support Activity, Panama City, Florida. Incumbent serves as a Supervisory Aquatics Coordinator responsible for the supervision, coordination, and economical operation of one outdoor pool facility as well as overseeing training. The purpose of this position is to ensure that all aquatics programs and activities operate efficiently and safely according to rules, regulations, and standard operating procedures.

Duties

Help

Oversees the operation of one outdoor pool, along with all associated aquatics programs including swim lessons, parties, special events, camps, swim meets, PRT, and all related activities. Reviews patron usage and assesses program needs. Researches and recommends additions and/or changes to current programming providing data to substantiate. Ensures all aquatics programs are suited to site patronage and within facility limitations while meeting all time and financial constraints. Responsible for running a well-rounded and comprehensive aquatics program for Active-Duty, Active-Duty family members, Retirees, Retiree family members, and DoD Civilians.

Oversees the maintenance of one outdoor pool, pool facility, pump house and equipment in support of the aquatics program. Keeps accurate maintenance records and ensures proper water chemistry is always maintained by consistently monitoring. Maintains internal controls over all aquatic's facilities, equipment, vehicles, supplies, and fees.

Administers all safety programs related to an aquatic operation and maintains a safe and healthful environment for all patrons and aquatics personnel.

Assists in the preparation and administration of the annual aquatics budget. Prepares all necessary paperwork and documentation used in the purchase of supplies and equipment in support of the aquatic's operation.

Supervision shall include, but is not limited to the following duties:

  • Oversees the day-to-day operation of theone pool, programs, and staff, both on a seasonal and year-round capacity. Ensures that all lifeguards maintain up-to-date required training certifications as required by their position and can execute emergency action plans for their area of responsibility.
  • Administers written and practical water safety tests to ensure the qualifications of lifeguards and instructors assigned to the swimming pool.
    • Staff during the summer aquatics season:
      • Approximately 8-10 lifeguards (pool)
      • 3-4 recreation aids
  • Recruitment, interviewing, selection, orientation, training and evaluating performance. Incumbent counsels, issues basic disciplinary actions, recommends awards and approves leave.
  • Responsible for the operation of the swimming lesson program to include:
    • Planning and implementation
    • Ensuring compliance with American Red Cross standards
    • Maintaining records
    • Reporting data to the Red Cross
  • Monitors the handling of funds and ensures that the DAR's are properly submitted.
  • Perform lifeguarding duties.
  • Conducts Red Cross CPR/AED, and first aid training for all MWR Panama City Fitness, Sports and Aquatics Division staff as required.
  • Assist in other Fitness, Sports, and Aquatics Division events as well as MWR Panama City events as assigned.

This position will also be responsible for overseeing training across all MWR departments, including keeping training records for staff, ensuring that training is kept up to date, scheduling training, and executing many training courses, which demand in-person instruction (e.g. Red Cross CPR and Lifeguard courses, Customer Service training, etc.).

Qualifications

Specialized experience directly related to the duties described above. Qualifying experience must have been equivalent to the next lower level in the normal line of progression. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Knowledge of MWR policies, rules, and regulations involving the work area.
  • Knowledge of basic arithmetic to compute charges, disperse change accurately, and prepare reports.
  • Knowledge of cash handling procedures.
  • Knowledge of basic fitness, aquatics and sports principles.
  • Knowledge of safe use and operation of fitness equipment, facility operations, and basic fitness equipment maintenance/repair.
  • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office Programs (e.g., Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook) and others as the relate to fitness, sports and aquatics programming.
  • Skill and ability to provide fitness, aquatics and sports training or orientation.
  • Ability to competently and independently carry out day to day recreation operations.
  • Ability to develop and effectively deliver presentations and/or training.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

The Aquatics Coordinator is a supervisory position responsible for development and oversight of aquatics programming. You must possess one certification from each list in order to qualify to perform the duties as program director:

This position accepts education in addition to experience. Knowledge gained through the successful completion of a baccalaureate program with a major study appropriate to the field of aquatics recreation OR at least three (3) years of experience that shows a demonstrated knowledge of the techniques, principles, and methods utilized in the operation of a pool and/or ocean-front (beach) area aquatics operation will qualify. Must upload degree/certificate and experience must be noted in resume to receive credit.
