The United States Space Force (USSF) Space Systems Command (SSC) at B Johnson Space Center, Houston, TX is searching for a Space Experiment Support Engineer to support SYD 89/SDT (NH-0801-03, GS12/13 Equivalent).

Description:

We are seeking a senior General Engineer to join our team as a technical expert in space systems acquisition and integration. In this role, you will be at the forefront of innovation, advancing cutting-edge technologies that enhance the affordability, responsiveness, and resilience of the National Security Space enterprise. As a key member of our team, your daily mission will involve guiding critical engineering projects through the entire lifecycle. You will apply your expertise to translate customer needs into design criteria, evaluate alternative approaches, and develop specifications for total weapons systems and subsystems. You will serve as the organization's technical specialist, leading analyses, resolving unique engineering problems, and providing expert consultation to senior leadership. This role requires you to be a proactive problem-solver and a collaborative team player, working across disciplines to ensure our space systems are reliable, effective, and ready for the future.

Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate for this position is a senior professional engineer holding a bachelor's degree from an ABET-accredited institution, with a strong background in systems engineering, particularly in space systems acquisition and integration. This individual will have extensive experience serving as a technical expert and consultant on complex, multidisciplinary engineering projects that involve electronics, mechanical, and/or aerospace principles. They should be adept at planning, organizing, and directing projects in space systems acquisition, including defining system requirements, evaluating design approaches, and developing system specifications. The candidate must possess or be able to obtain within 24 months an Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP) Level 2 or 3 certification in a relevant area such as Test & Evaluation (T&E) or Systems Planning, Research, Development, and Engineering-Systems Engineering (SPRDE-SE). Essential skills include an expert knowledge of advanced engineering theories, the ability to lead teams, manage resources, build coalitions, and communicate effectively to persuade and negotiate. A proactive approach to problem-solving, strategic planning, and managing customer needs is crucial, as is the ability to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance.

    1. Ability to organize work, set priorities, and determine resource requirements; determine goals and strategies to achieve them; coordinate with other organizations; monitor progress, and evaluate outcomes.
    1. Ability to identify problems and use sound judgment and decisions to generate and evaluate alternatives and make recommendations

  • Must be a U.S Citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance.
  • Safeguards classified or sensitive budget-related information and/or files.
  • May be required to work overtime on an unscheduled or emergency basis.
  • Eligible for situational telework only, including Emergency and OPM prescribed “Unscheduled Telework”.
  • This position will close after 5 business days or 75 applications, whichever comes first.
  • Employee may be required to perform travel by military or commercial passenger aircraft in the performance of temporary duty assignments.
  • PCS / Relocation funding is authorized.
  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to pre-employment drug testing as a condition of employment, and participation in random drug testing.
  • Employee must within 30-days of assuming this position and by 31 October annually thereafter, file an OGE-450, "Confidential Financial Disclosure Report." Employee is required to attend annual ethics and procurement integrity training.
  • This position has been designated as an acquisition position and is covered by the Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP).
  • Subject to TDY approximately 15 days a year.
  • Position requires a professional engineering degree at the bachelor's level from an ABET accredited institution is required. Advanced degrees are preferred.
