The incumbent is trained as an Intermediate Plate Maker (Intaglio) so that within two (2) years they will be able to perform the full range of duties required of the position.

Duties

Help

As a Plate Maker - Intaglio - Intermediate, you will:

  • Fill tanks, change filters, and replace and services anodes.
  • Monitor plating conditions as prescribed by supervisor, for electro-forming, plating, electro-cleaning, or depleting.
  • Prepare nickel, copper, and plastic master forms for plating by cleaning, silver spraying and other appropriate operations.
  • Use appropriate drawings, precision scales, and hand tools, locate and enter lines used for processing, on altos, plates, and other engraved products.
  • Back up master plates and altos with sheet steel by adhesive bonding or soldering before electro-forming operation.
  • Solder blank steel end pieces on steel masters to expand them to the proper size.
  • Hand-straighten and grind steel master plates used to make altos.
  • Machine and separate flatbed plates from altos, grinding backs of altos to the proper size and beveling and slotting the plate.

Upon completion of required training at the WE-2, this position can progress to the WE-3.

  • Public Trust - Background Investigation will be required.

  • Undergo a tax compliance review.

  • Wear required safety clothing and/or equipment required by the position. This may include safety shoes, hard hats, hearing protection, gloves, masks, etc.
  • Shift Work: This facility operates 24 hours per day. Assignment to a specific shift cannot be guaranteed. The successful applicant must be available to work day shift.

Physical Requirements:

This position requires moderate to heavy lifting of weights up to 50 pounds. Must be able to operate materials handling equipment used in the performance of craft duties including carts, hand trucks, manual and power hoists, etc. The incumbent must have the ability to stand for extended periods. Good eyesight, coordination, dexterity, and both legs are required.

Vision requirements are both eyes, depth perception, near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4, far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other.
