Duties

Help
  • Supervise a staff of 12-15 civilian and military personnel either directly or through subordinate leaders.
  • Conduct screening of medical records for derogatory information that may cause an individual to be a security risk
  • Supervise the Medical Correspondence Section, making decisions on medico-legal matters in regard to release of information.
  • Ensure that all disclosures of medical information are properly recorded and that appropriate fees are charged and collected for these services as required by governing regulations.
  • Plan and supervise the overall work schedules to assure an even flow and distribution of work.
  • Formulate and issue written and oral instructions, procedures and special instructions for nonroutine or complex assignments or to clarify published guidelines.
  • Review work in progress or upon completion to ascertain problems and takes corrective action as necessary.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and accountability of medical records.
  • Manage and oversee the maintenance and handling of all sensitive records.
  • Responsible for overseeing and providing technical advice, guidance and support to personnel.
  • Serve as the Patient Administration Department (PAD) representative for special projects.
  • Serve as Contracting Officer Representative (COR) for Patient Administration Department (PAD) contracts including language line, transcription, and any additional contracts acquired by the contract.
  • Responsible for acquiring and maintaining bi-yearly Contracting Officer Representative (COR) certification and attending training to remain current with the changes in federal contractual laws.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
  • Position is designated as Inclement Weather Essential. The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.
  • This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
  • This position requires occasional TDY - 5%.
  • Responsible for acquiring and maintaining bi-yearly COR certification and attending training to remain current with the changes in federal contractual laws.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education/experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing leadership, oversight, and guidance to ensure adherence to medical records programs; possessing technical knowledge in Medical Records Administration and/or Health Information Management; AND possessing one of the following: reviewing medical records to resolve any potential issues, ensuring records administration complies with regulatory requirements, or conducting quality control of medical records. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

OR

Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as, Medical Records Administration or Health Care Administration (You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. (You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
