Duties

Help
  • You will maintain parts, materials, tools, and equipment at prescribed levels for instrument work.
  • You will calibrate and maintain cleanliness of test instruments used in wastewater systems
  • You will inspect, test, modify, and calibrate Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition Systems (SCADA) to maintain operational efficiency.
  • You will repair mechanical, electronic, physical, and electro-mechanical test devices or instruments used to measure equipment at a wastewater lift station.
  • You will use shop mathematics (e.g., algebra, geometry, basic physics) relating to electrical and electronic functions to accomplish initial operational checks and the calibration and final testing of instruments and equipment.

The Screen-out Element for this position is ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION: 1) Must have experience and knowledge with maintaining mechanical and electrical systems. 2) Must have experience with trouble shooting electrical systems. 3) Must posses basic knowledge of electrical systems. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.

A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if the selectee fails to meet the pre-employment requirements, including failure to report to any of the scheduled appointments.

Selectee occasionally lifts and carries weights up to 50 lbs. Work involves standing, and sitting positions for continuous periods as well as frequent bending, kneeling, stooping, and crouching.

Work occasionally involves fumes and unpleasant odors (e.g. cleaning solvents and preservative sprays) and equipment containing mercury. As H2S (Hydrogen Sulfide) is a common gas in the wastewater system, selectee will be exposed to it in amounts deemed safe by OSHA. Is intermittently exposed to common electrical/mechanical industrial hazards. Is exposed to raw sewage and sewage gases.

Employee may be required to work overtime, is subject to emergency recall seven days a week and is subject to shift work.

Occasionally assigned duties will require selectee to enter into and work inside confined spaces. Selectee will be required to receive a pre-placement physical examination based upon the type of work performed and hazards to be encountered, an annual examination based on the potential of these hazards and a termination examination upon termination of employment or reassignment to other duties.

PPP applicants will be placed at the FPL, if determined Well Qualified (WQ). To receive priority consideration, the FPL must be the same grade level or equivalent of the retained grade or the grade held immediately prior to separation.
