Help
  • Maintain the facilities for pumping and treating waterborne sewage, and operating the sewer treatment plants.
  • Operate, clean, and maintain pumping and treatment facilities in an Industrial Wastewater and Domestic Wastewater Treatment Plants.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on plant equipment and operated industrial and domestic wastewater collection pumping stations.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Pre-employment physical and willing to maintain a level of physical fitness to obtain and maintain employment as required.
  • Subject to potential occupational exposure to wastewater and/or sewage and is required to receive prescribed initial and follow up immunizations, IAW AR 40-562, Immunizations and Chemoprophylaxis for the Prevention of Infectious Diseases.
  • Works on rotating shifts, which can be changed with little or no notice.
  • May be subject to report to work during regular off-hours with little or not notice or may be placed on call.
  • May be required to participate in the Unescorted Access Program. This requires a Security check and Random Drug Testing.
  • Possess and maintain a valid state driver's license in order to operate a government Trimotor vehicle (GOV).

Qualifications


THIS IS A DIRECT HIRE SOLICITATION - These positions are being advertised through the Direct Hire Authority (DHA) for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) Facilities. Under this authority, competitive rating/ranking and veterans' preference procedures do not apply.

This position is a TERM, 1 year 1 day, position.

  • This is a temporary position and may be extended up to a maximum of eight (8) years.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT OPERATOR ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator duties. I can perform scheduled preventive maintenance on plant equipment and operated industrial and domestic wastewater collection pumping stations. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
  • Physical Effort: Work requires continual walking, moderate lifting up to 40 pounds, climbing, and standing, and hauling of light tools, good vision corrected or uncorrected, good hearing with or without the use of hearing aid. In walking, goes up and down stairways and all areas of waste treatment and collection system in climbing ladders to various tanks within the industrial wastewater and domestic sewage treatment facilities.
  • Working Conditions: Works inside and outside in all kinds of weather and areas considered permit required confined space. When working outside, is in contact with dirty and greasy machinery when performing maintenance or operational tasks. Frequently works in very toxic waters. Wears protective clothing and equipment when working with dangerous chemicals, disagreeable dust or fumes, and inadequate ventilation. Subject to serious burns when hauling chemicals and very toxic wastes throughout the plant, such as chromic acids, strong alkali solutions, phosphoric acid and other toxic constituents that may be contained in the depot's industrial operations. Exposed to infections or diseases such as typhoid and dysentery when cleaning equipment or shoveling sludge. Exposed to the danger of falling into open tanks, manholes, and scum chambers. Cuts, bruises, and broken bones may result from accidents.
