Duties

Help

As a Supervisory Loan Specialist at the GS-1165-13, some of your typical work assignments may include:

  • Supervising employees regarding the completion of assignments in attainment of Center goals. Guiding employees with knowledge of new technical information relevant to Center work and assimilating changes in the production environment. Motivating employees and recommends changes that maximize production.
  • Gathering and reviewing facts related to loan balance, lien situations, collateral, interests of other creditors and any assets of the borrower that may provide recovery to the Agency. Serving as a technical expert/resource for the full range of collection, servicing and liquidation activities associated with Center loan portfolio. Providing guidance regarding particularly difficult or sensitive assignments.
  • Serving as a role model and technical expert for employees. Ensures a high level of customer service is provided to all SBA clients.
  • Providing well written reports and documentation as needed in the performance of duties.

Qualifications

GS-13: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service, obtained in either the private or public sector:

  • In-depth analysis of obligator's financial statements and earning potential of a variety of business enterprises to make recommendations for residential and commercial/business loan applications or servicing/liquidation actions, including a thorough working knowledge of a variety of collateral, business types, loan program and general economic conditions. AND
  • Leading a team or managing an office of loan officers/specialists in business / residential loan programs including but not limited to servicing, collections, and/or loan liquidation.
These qualifications must be clearly referenced in your resume.

There is no education substitution for this grade level.

If you are a current career or career-conditional federal employee applying for promotion under Merit Promotion you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks in positions at the next level lower than the position being filled.

Loan Specialist Series - 1165

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Generally, time in Non-Pay status as a federal employee is not creditable towards the specialized experience requirement listed above.

All qualification requirements must be met by 11:59 pm (Eastern Time) on 05/29/2026.

This is a bargaining unit position with AFGE Local 228.
