Duties

Help

This position is located in the Operations Flight of an Air National Guard (ANG) RED HORSE Squadron. The primary purpose of the position is to perform structural duties associated with the fabrication, installation, inspection, and repair of base facilities, operation and maintenance (O&M) projects, pre-engineered metal building construction projects, and base recovery projects requiring the use of a variety of trade practices such as carpentry, cement finishing, wood crafter, metal fabrication and welding. Manages, constructs, repairs, and modifies structural systems and wooden, masonry, metal, and concrete buildings. Fabricates and repairs components of buildings, utility systems, and real property equipment. Ensures compliance with environmental regulations.

  • Plans and completes work from initial layout to final assembly by interpreting and applying building plans, specifications, methods, techniques, materials, devices and sequences best suited for construction.
  • Prepares and interprets working drawings and schematics for maintaining, altering, and repairing buildings and structures. Surveys proposed work sites to determine material and labor requirements.
  • Prepares cost estimates. Reviews structural work progress and coordinates changes in schedules.
  • Ensures structural soundness of completed work which involves understanding weak and stress points; and insuring proper reinforcement, propping and bracing.
  • Performs construction and training related to masonry, sheet metal layout and fabrication, welding and cutting, concrete forming, wood framing and finishing.
  • Equipment custodian for Structures section.
  • Implements the Squadron Environmental Program and Air Force Occupational Safety and Health Program (AFOSH) within the Structures section.
  • (Coordinates with RED HORSE Logistics Flight Vehicle Maintenance and supports qualification of Guardsman and validation of government driver's license for all the authorized vehicles.
  • Performs maintenance on diesel and gasoline engine driven shop equipment IAW the operator and owner manuals provided by the manufacturer. Performs required repairs to maintain safe operation and availability.
  • Perform corrosion control on assigned construction equipment and vehicles.
  • Prepares training plans for the operation and operator maintenance for all types of construction equipment. Must be proficient in the operation of construction and maintenance equipment such as diesel and gasoline powered trucks , man lifts, skidĀ­ steer loader, forklifts and similar equipment.
  • Provides individual and group instruction of the basic principles of operating and maintaining construction equipment to assigned personnel on a regular recurring basis.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED.
  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a trial period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.

Qualifications

Military Grades: Enlisted (SSgt to MSgt)

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training that has provided the candidate with the skill to make repairs or the ability to assist with repairs that can be accomplished by removing, adjusting, or replacing defective or worn parts.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience or training diagnosing, repairing, overhauling, and modifying more complex vehicles, equipment, and more complicated systems. Experience which has provided a thorough knowledge of diagnostic equipment. Experience applying independent judgment in determining methods and techniques required to solve unusually complex maintenance and repair problems. Experience in testing, inspecting, and evaluating the work performed on heavy mobile vehicles, equipment and systems.

Education
