Duties

Help

  • Performs required testing, troubleshoots, and corrects system and applications software discrepancies.
  • Analyzes complex operational processes and/or a variety of unusual problems, questions, or conditions relative to develop and employ information, processes, and systems to support Force Generation related mission activities.
  • Manages mission knowledge, information, and situational awareness processes and systems for operational units.
  • Develops and maintains required programs to support mission needs.
  • Determines Force Generation Readiness & Operations Division requirements and recognizes and analyzing trends and providing instruction and orientation services.

  • Depending on the type of position (competitive/excepted) you are selected for, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period.
  • Upon completion of your probationary/trial period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret Clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information.
  • Subject to pre-employment and random drug testing.
  • May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours and/or Shift work may be required which may include overtime and/or irregular hours.
  • Must maintain an Air Force network license and network access, according to AFI 33-115, Vol 2, Licensing Network Users and Certifying Network Professional and AFMAN 33-282, Computer Security, as a condition of employment.
  • Must achieve the appropriate Information assurance (IA) certification within six months of assignment. A waiver of this six-month requirement may be granted. Failure to receive the proper IA certification may result in removal.
  • May occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft/vehicle to conferences, meetings, or functions away from the duty office/location. Travel may include overnight stays.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving AND one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-11, or equivalent in other pay systems, which includes: Applying complex IT system analysis and applications software concepts, functions, techniques, and capabilities sufficient to evaluate the feasibility of proposed new systems and applications software projects; designing, writing, testing, debugging, and maintaining information systems and applications software and ensure successful integration with existing and anticipated infrastructure and the database environment; and the utilization of IT system application software and systems development life cycles, including systems documentation, system requirements and techniques, design development, configuration management, cost benefit analysis, systems analysis, unprecedented design methodologies, data administration, systems integration, and testing.

FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-11 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

1. Knowledge of IT systems analysis and applications software concepts, functions, techniques, and capabilities sufficient to evaluate new and emerging IT security methods and principles, the feasibility of proposed new systems and applications software projects; and to design, write, test, debug, and maintain information systems and applications software and ensure successful integration with existing and anticipated infrastructure in the database environment.

2. Knowledge of operational activities (such as special operations, personnel recovery, airlift, etc...), weapon systems, and command, control, and mission process, systems, and applications.

3. Knowledge of IT management information systems and applications software technology to isolate causes of problems between hardware, system, and applications software programs and to measure system performance and/or extend operating system capabilities to support organizational business processes and operations.

4. Knowledge of IT management information systems requirements and application software development techniques required in carrying out project assignments of considerable difficulty and with little specificity regarding approach to be followed.

5. Ability to maintain an up-to-date awareness of technological advances and predict how management can meet future requirements.

6. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and staff within the division.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
