Summary

The Division of Economic and Risk Analysis is seeking two Financial Analysts (Financial Markets Research and Data Analyst). As a Financial Markets Research and Data Analyst, you will join a team that provides statistical analysis in rulemaking economic analyses in asset management, corporate finance, and financial intermediaries, develops and updates the SEC's public Statistics & Data Visualizations webpage, and produces statistical reports to stakeholders across the agency.

Duties

Help

In this role as a Financial Markets Research and Data Analyst, you will be responsible for:

  • Serving as a senior adviser providing expert financial and economic data analysis, responding to complex and difficult questions related to or administered by the statutes of SEC.
  • Assisting rulemaking teams in the developing of Economic Analyses, including developing baseline statistics with data analysis for quantifying potential benefits and costs; and developing financial data analyses for Paperwork Reduction Act (PRA) analysis or PRA renewals.
  • Developing and updating the SEC's public Statistics & Data Visualizations webpage, including developing new statistics pages, data visualizations, and technical documents for transparency and to serve the public more effectively.
  • Serving as subject matter expert in the analysis of financial and economic data, such as data in initial public offerings, follow-on registered offerings, corporate bond offerings, asset-backed securities, commercial mortgage-backed securities, Regulation D offerings, investment advisers, investment companies, broker-dealers, municipal advisors, transfer agents, security-based swap markets, credit rating agencies (NRSROs), reporting issuers, corporate governance, or consumer finances.
  • Keeping abreast of trends and developments in financial markets, financial market structure, financial market regulation, initial public offerings, follow-on registered offerings, corporate bond offerings, asset-backed securities, commercial mortgage-backed securities, Regulation D offerings, investment advisers, investment companies, broker-dealers, municipal advisors, transfer agents, security-based swap markets, credit rating agencies (NRSROs), reporting issuers, corporate governance, or consumer finances, and research in these areas (academic and practitioner research); data sources and managing of data; and empirical methodologies.

Qualifications

Time-in-grade for this announcement is one year at the GS/SK-13 level.

Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT:
SK-14: Applicant must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS/SK-13 level:

  • Analyzing financial or economic data to inform rulemaking or analytical reports;
  • Producing technical documents including statistical methodology and advanced computer programs for data analysis, and
  • Communicating data analysis findings clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.

SEC COMPENSATION PROGRAM: Total salary (base pay + locality) is dependent upon duty location. The overall salary range listed above is provided for informational purposes. The pay for current SEC employees will be determined according to the procedures specified in the agency's policy.

  • Qualified - Meets the minimum qualification requirements, but may have a limited amount of experience in several of the job related competencies.
