Duties

Help

  • Directs, develops, plans and implements diverse, high level and high risk recreational training and guided programs, oversees the development and implementation of these programs and lower level programs by full time and part time program staff for the Outdoor Adventure Program (OAP).
  • Directs, develops and implements training operations specifically targeted at program staff professional development, Air Force Services Center official training programs, and coordinates and delivers recreational level training for specialized active duty units requiring mountain and river based programs.
  • Instructs or arranges paid and/or volunteer instructors to conduct classes in various outdoor recreation activities popular by current trends or customer demand.
  • Ensures compliance with state, local and federal regulatory requirements including managing public land use agreements and commercial use permits.
  • Assists ODR Director (ORD) with submitting annual budgets and quarterly revisions.
  • Prepares and maintains data necessary to support short and long range Appropriated and Non-Appropriated budgets.
  • Accounts for funds involved in the operation of the Outdoor Recreation Program.
  • Reports progress and make recommendations on program planning and follow-up procedures to the ORD.
  • Resolves customer issues and complaints.
  • Evaluates the OAP and develops strategies to continuously grow and improve the program. Assists the ORD in developing a risk management plan and programming Operating Instructions (OI's).
  • Maintains responsibility for equipment maintenance and ensures equipment is safe and in good working condition.
  • Recommends changes to supervisor.
  • Recruits, supervises, assigns, explains requirements and evaluates work performance directly of NF-III Regular Supervisory Recreation Specialist, NF-III and NF-II flex and MOA employees assigned to the OAP.
  • Oversees supervision of NF-II flex employee and volunteer guides assigned to the OAP.
  • Ensures compliance with AFI and local OIs.
  • Schedules assigned vehicles to support needs of the OAP.
  • Supports base/MAJCOM and AF level risk management initiatives and events.
  • Directs development of marketing material for the OAP on an annual and monthly basis to promote the OAP.
  • Maintains and creates partnerships with neighboring base ODRs, community and national industry level organizations, and other military branches/MAJCOMS as appropriate and beneficial for the mission of the OAP.
  • Assists budgeting, utilize SETS for scheduling purposes, conducts inventory and has proficient knowledge of all Point-Of-Sale equipment.
  • Performs required ORD duties as needed in the absence of ORD to ensure operational continuity.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience:

  • Must have extensive knowledge and experience with concepts, principles and techniques of a broad range of outdoor adventure programs, gained in a position in organizational professional guiding/outfitting or outdoor education.
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years documented outdoor recreation and guiding professional experience in both field and program leadership positions.
  • Must have minimum certification levels in Wilderness First Responder, Leave No Trace Trainer,
    Swiftwater Rescue, CPR, American Mountain Guides Association (AMGA) Multi Pitch Instructor, American Avalanche Association (A3) Pro 2 and Recreation American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education (AIARE) Course Instructor.
  • Must have minimum training levels of AMGA Apprentice Ski Guide, AMGA Apprentice Alpine Guide, and completed the AMGA Ice Instructor Course.
  • Ideal candidate has terminal certifications in the rock, alpine or ski track of AMGA training or IFMGA License, and is an SPI and CWI Provider.
  • Strong organization and planning skills required and fluency in Google Suite and Microsoft Suite.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a favorable Tier 1 background investigation as a condition of employment.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
