Duties

Help

As a Occupational Health Specialist at the GS-0601-13 level, some of your typical work assignments may include:

  • Serving as a technical authority, advisor and consultant for occupational health program management, administration and evaluation to the Office of Court Security (OCS).
  • Managing and audit multiple medical/health review programs for applicants/incumbents and works with the contracted security companies to verify the medical qualification review/adjudication of those entering and occupying positions within the CSO program.
  • Acting as the liaison between the Office of Court Security (OCS) management and the CSO contract employers medical program representatives.
  • Providing guidance and oversight to CSO contract employers on medical related issues.
  • Ensuring that documentation by the CSO applicant/incumbent and the examining clinic/practitioner is complete and accurate and that the services were provided in accordance with the USMS CSO contract medical requirements.

Qualifications

TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Merit Promotion and Veterans Employment Opportunity Act (VEOA) Status applicants must provide an SF50 Notice of Personnel Action that indicates proof of status and time-in-grade eligibility. The SF50 must include the position, title, series, grade, step, tenure, type of service (Competitive or Excepted) and career status (career or career-conditional). No award SF50 will be accepted as proof of status and time-in-grade eligibility.

  • One year at the GS-12 grade level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-13 grade level.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you possess BOTH the Basic Requirement AND Specialized Experience requirements outlined below:

Basic Requirement: You must possess a Bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited institution with a major in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences that is appropriate for the Occupational Health Specialist position. (Must submit transcripts.)

AND

Specialized Experience: In addition to the Basic Requirement above, to be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the required specialized experience below:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service that demonstrates your ability to:
  1. Applying regulations and procedures to advise on or resolve health related matters dealing with applicant/incumbent that have job-related medical requirements;
  2. Managing and reviewing medical cases within medical programs (e.g., medical standards); AND
  3. Analyzing and evaluating the effectiveness and efficiency of applicant/incumbent medical programs.

Education

  • Your full name.
  • The name of the college, university, or other educational institution.
  • Your major and degree.
  • The date your degree was awarded/conferred.
  • Your cumulative grade point average (GPA).
  • Any honors you received.
  • The dates you attended the school.
  • A list of the courses you took, to include the total number of credits completed.
Academic degrees must be granted from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. To determine if a school or program is accredited, refer to the Database of Accredited Postsecondary Institutions and Programs.

GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirements for one year of full-time graduate study.

Foreign Education: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
