Duties

Help
  • Serves as the initial point of contact for patients presenting for appointments.
  • Performs a variety of administrative clerical support duties facilitating the work of physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, and hospital corpsmen.
  • These duties include record keeping, answering telephones, appointment booking, and patient check-in. Logs in patients for clinic appointments and completes required forms.
  • Schedules appointments for patients requiring a variety of examinations. Coordinates appointments for timeliness according to the NMCP/TRICARE Appointment Booking Standards.
  • Receives and responds to phone calls and inquiries from patients concerning a variety of medical, personnel, and administrative matters, determines general nature of inquiry and independently responds to all administrative questions.
  • Takes inventory and requisitions adequate stocks of unit supplies including paper, pens, and other administrative items.
  • Types departmental letters, memoranda, replies and requests, and other correspondence as requested by the supervisor. Performs end of day processing of appointments in automated healthcare systems and/or in MHS Genesis/Revenue Cycle.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
  • Hepatitis B: Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • Influenza: This position has mandatory seasonal Influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal Influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons.
  • Tuberculosis (TB): This position requires the incumbent to have Tuberculosis testing.
  • This position is designated Tier 3, Non-Critical Sensitive, Moderate Risk and requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance Level as a condition of employment.
  • Fully qualified typist required.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience and/or education requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. General Experience: One year of general experience. General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled, such as: receiving calls and visitors, scheduling appointments, filing records, and providing instructions to patients in a medical treatment facility or clinical setting.

OR

Education: Two years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of by 60. Add the two percentages.

Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.

Education

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
