As a DIRECTOR OF INSPECTIONS, GS-1801-12, you will serve as the focal point for interpreting, developing, and implementing Air Force inspection policy and wing-level long-range strategic plans. Provides direction and oversight of internal and external inspections, audits, evaluations, reviews, exercises, and analyses to determine unit effectiveness and efficiency. Ensures operational, contingency, and mobilization plans adhere to policy and direct the effective use of wing resources.

  • Employee will be required to wear and use personal protective equipment as required and provided by the employer.
  • Ability to establish effective professional working relationships with coworkers and customers, contributing to a cooperative working environment and successful accomplishment of the mission.
  • Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day.
  • May be required to travel by car, in military and/or commercial aircraft, and by other means of transportation as appropriate to perform temporary duty assignments.
  • For positions requiring a security clearance (Secret or Top Secret) the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment.

Qualifications

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience, education, or training which has provided the applicant with skill in collecting and analyzing data effectively, efficiently, and accurately; knowledge of applicable laws, directives, regulations, policies, and procedures; skill in interpersonal communications, empathy, and effective listening; ability to organize thoughts, research materials, and manage case projects; skill in comprehending and interpreting directives and laws; ability to enunciate without impediment of speech that would interfere or prohibit effective communications; ability to write reports and presentation formats; and ability to communicate orally and in writing, clearly and effectively.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have one year equivalent to at least next lower grade level. Must have experience planning, organizing, resourcing, and directing the execution of a wide range of complex inspection activities for the wing Commander's Inspection Program (CCIP). Must have experience overseeing compliance, plans, and conducts By-Law, Special Emphasis Items (SEI), Special Interest Items (SII), Command Interest Items (CII) and nuclear assurance inspections as outlined by requirements from the DoD, DAF, NGB, and G-MAJCOM. Must have experience reviewing the adequacy and currency of installation exercise policy guidance and instructions, and updates as necessary to incorporate program changes or to address areas where improvement is required. Must have experience organizing and analyzing data from inspections and exercises across the DoD with the goal of identifying and communicating trends.

Additional information

If you are a male applicant who was born after 12/31/1959 and are required to register under the Military Selective Service Act, the Defense Authorization Act of 1986 requires that you be registered or you are not eligible for appointment in this agency (Register | Selective Service System : Selective Service System (sss.gov)).


Additional Conditions of Employment:
-This position requires a secret security clearance; the incumbent of this position must obtain and maintain a secret Clearance. Work may require access to higher classified information. Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.

-This position is designated as Essential Personnel and may be subject to duty in preparation for, or in response to, a state emergency or disaster declaration. This designation will not exceed 14calendar days per year unless otherwise approved in advance by the TAG.

-IAW AF guidance, incumbent must complete the wing Inspector General Training Course Inspections (IGTC-I) within 180 days of appointment; must complete Inspector General Training Course Complaints Resolution (IGTC-Q) within 180 days of appointment; and IG appointees for nuclear-capable units will complete the USAF Nuclear Inspector Course within 180 days of assignment. Successful completion of other courses will be accomplished IAW applicable DoD, AF, and National Guard Bureau regulations. Recommend completion of the NGB/IG Advanced Course within one year of appointment.
