Duties

Help

If selected, the incumbent of this position provides a variety of administrative support functions in the areas of acquisition of goods and services, facilities, supply inventories, building and equipment maintenance, mail management, and information receptionist. Typical work assignments will include:

  • Provides clerical support by answering multi-line telephone systems, greeting and escorting visitors, sorting and distributing mail.
  • Produces a variety of documents utilizing word processing software functions, working from handwritten drafts, edited copies, or electronic files.
  • Maintains adequate levels of office supplies using judgment regarding availability of supplies and lead time needed for delivery.
  • Monitors service contracts and agreements for office equipment and other materials.
  • Ensures building maintenance and repairs are performed promptly and adequately.
  • Purchases supplies and services to meet the needs of the United States Attorney's Office, Eastern District of Louisiana.
  • Serves as the Assistant Property Custodial Officer.
  • Processes and evaluates personnel security pre-employment requests for completeness and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.

Qualifications

To be eligible for a recent graduate appointment, ALL of the following requirements must be met:

  • Recent Graduates must have obtained a qualifying associates, bachelors, master's, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying accredited educational institution within the previous 2 years unless military service interfered with a veteran's eligibility to apply during that two year time frame. Veterans meeting the above exclusion may apply within 2 years of discharge or 6 years from the date of receipt of the degree whichever comes first.   • Recent graduates must be United States citizens or owe permanent allegiance to the United States. (Currently, natives of American Samoa, Swains Island and certain inhabitants of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands are the only groups that owe permanent allegiance to the United States.)
  • You must successfully complete a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
  • All recent graduates are required to sign a Pathways Recent Graduate Participant Agreement.
  • Recent Graduates serve a trial period for the entire duration of their excepted service appointment.
  • Qualification requirements as outlined below:
Qualification Requirements:

GS-5: To be eligible at the GS-5 level, you must have:

Specialized experience: Applicant must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-4 level. Specialized experience is defined as experience providing clerical support in an office setting, including managing front desk or general office operations (e.g., answering phones, assisting visitors, and handling mail); reviewing documents for accuracy and assisting with processing forms or requests; maintaining files and records; and utilizing automated software to prepare documents, reports, correspondence, and other related materials.

Education: Four years of education above the high school level.

OR

Combining Education and Experience: Successfully completed post-high school education may be used to meet the total one year of specialized experience requirement equivalent to the GS-4 grade level. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.

GS-6: To be eligible at the GS-6 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level.

Specialized experience is defined as experience reviewing and verifying invoices for payment; processing purchase requests; reviewing and processing sensitive information; updating property or asset information into a database; managing supply levels and monitoring delivery timelines; and coordinating service or maintenance requests.

GS-7: To be eligible at the GS-7 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 level.

Specialized experience is defined as experience purchasing supplies and services; resolving issues with orders or services while coordinating solutions with vendors; monitoring service contracts and agreements; managing and processing sensitive information to ensure accuracy and compliance; and supporting planning efforts for supplies, equipment, and office operations.
  • To be qualified, you must type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. (A typing test may later be required.)

Education

All academic degrees and coursework must be completed at an institution that has obtained accreditation or pre-accreditation status from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications.
