  • Conduct PH test of industrial waste solutions, prior to treatment.
  • Operate and maintain various units and equipment which comprise the treatment and disposal processes.
  • Performs cleaning and maintenance of treatment equipment and control building.
  • Operate forklift to perform various duties involving treatment of Industrial waste.
  • Operate and maintains various units and equipment.
  • Perform monitoring and sampling of the system.
  • Perform cleaning and maintenance of all treatment equipment.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • One year probationary period will be required.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential".
  • Job requires valid State of Pennsylvania certification for Class C or above Sewage Treatment Plant Operator, prior to being hired.
  • This position is covered by Civilian Drug Testing Program. Incumbent is required to signa DA Form 5019-R, Condition of Employment for certain civilian positions identified as critical under the Drug Abuse Testing Program.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Water Plant Treatment Operator ~ without more than normal supervision. Resumes will be reviewed for the following: Ability to perform the most difficult and complex Water Treatment Plant Operator task. Ability to operation and maintain water pumping and water treating equipment; Conduct PH test of industrial waste solutions; Perform preventive maintenance on pumps and equipment, lubricates, repacks and make repairs; Operate and maintain various units and equipment which comprise the treatment and disposal processes to include wet wells, holding tanks, gravity separator, PH adjustment, flash mixer, flocculation and settling tanks, MBBR, final clarifier; Control building equipped with such mechanical equipment as water and sludge pumps, chemical feeders, flow recorders, vertical sand filters and controllers; manage filter press sludge as hazardous waste; Perform monitoring and sampling of the system to include daily flow readings at various points, daily pressure checks, bimonthly compliance sampling; Make tests for dissolved oxygen and biochemical oxygen demand of influent and effluent solutions; collecting and weighing water samples to ensure correct pH; Operate and maintain feeders; conducting residual sampling tests and inspect chlorinators; Use and weigh chemicals; Maintain rapid sand filter beds; and conduct daily, routine, basic laboratory tests necessary for water treatment plant operation; Work with a high degree of independence.
- Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work involves considerable walking and standing on concrete floors, climbing stairways and ladders, and moderate physical effort is exerted to unload, stack, or empty chemicals into feeds, etc.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS: Incumbent is subject to bacterial infections, VOC contamination, and mechanical injury from rotating equipment and exposure to poisonous gases end fumes. There is also danger from falls into open tanks, manholes, and holding chambers. A certain amount of work must be performed outside in adverse weather conditions. Rubber protective clothing is provided.
