Duties

Help
  • For the GS-11:
  • You will serve as the branch's technical advisor for all security-related reference and access services.
  • You will perform the full range of professional archival duties (appraisal, arrangement, description, preservation) with a focus on classified or access-restricted collections containing security equities.
  • You will be responsible for the full lifecycle management of the command's classified historical record.
  • For the GS-09:
  • You will work under close supervision until all facets of the position are learned.
  • You will receive instruction on hat to do, the methods use, what to look for, and what to bring attention of the Archives Director or Deputy Director.
  • You will be provided detailed and specific instructions for developmental tasks and tasks involving the use of unfamiliar formats, methods and procedures.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.

Qualifications

For the GS-11:

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Examples of specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1). Arranging, describing, preserving, and providing reference service from public records and historic documents, 2). Applying records management regulations and information access laws such as the Freedom of Information Act and Privacy Act, 3). Performing written and oral communication skills for interacting with researchers, agency personnel, and senior leadership and 4). Providing reference services or managing requests for records with access restrictions, familiarity with electronic records management and digital content systems.

For the GS-09:

Following prescribe procedures reference services or managing requests for records with access restrictions, familiarity with electronic records management and digital content systems.

Education

Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must posses:

  1. Bachelor's degree in archival science or bachelor's degree with a major that includes 18 semester hours in archival science, history and/or in political science or government, and 12 semester hours in one or any combination of the following: archival science, history, American civilization, economics, political science, public administration, or government.

    or

  2. Combination of education and experience - at least 30 semester hours that included courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.


For the GS-11:

3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree

OR

Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree

For the GS-09:

2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree

OR

master's or equivalent graduate degree

Additional information

This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.

Term appointments may be extended up to 8 years at the discretion of management and in accordance with applicable regulations. Additionally, you may be noncompetitively converted to a permanent career-conditional or career appointment under specific conditions.
