Duties

Help
  • You will prepare and apply various paints and proper finishes to process aircraft, aircraft engine structures, components, assembles, and/or sub-assemblies.
  • You will apply sophisticated coating materials such as water base, elastomeric and low VOC materials to aircraft, components and ground support equipment, and radiation reflecting coatings to cockpits and canopy enclosures.
  • You will clean and prepare aircraft, engine, and miscellaneous components and parts, by chemical, mechanical, and sonic methods using various chemical solutions.
  • You will control and maintain temperature consistency and effectiveness of the various solutions.
  • You will use abrasive sandblasting equipment to clean, remove corrosion, and other contaminants from parts and equipment.
  • You will set-up equipment, select the proper size of shot, and masks parts to accomplish work tasks.
  • You will perform solution analysis, make chemical additions, and inspect work in process and upon completion.
  • You will operate various types of metal spraying equipment including plasma, thermo, and wire spray.
  • You will apply coatings such as refractory ceramic coatings, exothermic materials, tungsten, carbide, nickel aluminide, nickel chrome alloys, spray silver, spray bronze, spray steel, spray aluminum, and molybdenum.
  • You will work from complex technical specifications, blueprints, electronic schematics and various other written and verbal instructions.
  • You will accomplish other duties as assigned.

  • This position is subject to various noise levels which occasionally exceed 85 DBA.
  • You may be required to lift, carry or handle items that weigh 75-100 pounds. Objects weighing more than 100 pounds are lifted using hoists or the aid of other workers.
  • You will be subject to work in sitting position for extended periods of time and frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and stooping is required.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You may be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • You must have normal vision (color and depth perception; and good manual dexterity, eye and hand coordination to accomplish work tasks.
  • This position is subject to rotating shifts and overtime.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION, and performing tasks such as: 1) Reading and understanding specifications, sketches, blueprints, technical directives, manuals, and shop orders to obtain information on surfaces to be coated; 2) Employing methods and techniques of blasting such as distance of nozzle from surfaces, duration of blasting, angle of blast, and methods for positioning and holding workpieces; 3) Demonstrating a working knowledge of the setup and operation of shot peening cabinets and other equipment; 4) Proving ability to read and interpret engineering instructions and blueprints; 5) Applying job-related experience to test for proper time and pressure by means of industry-related test strips (e.g., Almen Test Strips); 6) Demonstrating working knowledge and understanding of various aircraft metals to be shot peened, such as aluminum, steel, magnesium and titanium; 7) Utilizing various electrolytic and chemical processes to accomplish precision, protective, and decorative metallic or nonmetallic finishes on a wide array of metal and metal alloy objects; 8) Demonstrating ability to restore worn metal surfaces to original dimensions with successive precision buildups of zincate, copper, and chrome; and 9) Using sanding and painting spraying equipment to complete painting assignments.
