Duties

Help
  • Answer workers questions regarding procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives (e.g., technical orders); obtains needed information or decisions from the supervisor on problems that come up during the work.
  • Determine the effects that alterations will have on the total system and for insuring that lines and equipment function properly.
  • Work to project objectives proposed by engineers, including planning and laying out the sequence of work from drawings and blueprints which may be incomplete, regarding the specific wiring required in the unique application of equipment.
  • Guidance for proper handling of hazardous materials/waste is obtained through formal training efforts and specific guidance issued by the supervisor.
  • Make in field decisions to correct or prevent system faults which would result in unscheduled post wide power failures.

  • Commercial Driver License (CDL) is required to perform the duties of this position.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an ELECTRICIAN (HIGH VOLTAGE) LEADER without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common duties of an Electrician (High Voltage) Leader. I can provide information to supervisor on status and progress of work, causes of delays, and overall work operations and problems (e.g., additional on-the-job training requirements for individual employees) and works from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and electrical maintenance and repair manuals to plan, layout, determine wire, fixture and equipment type and size, balance the load, and insure the proper and safe operating of electrical lines, circuits, systems, equipment and controls. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • PHYSICAL EFFORT: Moderately heavy physical effort is exerted as employee works aloft on poles, at ground level, and in ground trenches or manholes. Work requires bending, stooping, climbing, and standing for long periods. Coordination of eyes, hands, legs, and body is needed in installing, repairing, and testing electrical equipment in confined spaces such as manholes and overhead structures.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS: Works outside most of the time, subject to extremes of weather conditions, which could result in mandatory 24 hour emergency call, and in close proximity to high voltage lines and equipment. Work requires extensive pole climbing with some work in underground facilities. Subject to death or serious injury by contact with high voltage lines, broken bones in falls from poles, strains from awkward positions, and less serious cuts and bruises when handling tools and materials. May be required to work in contaminated areas, exposed to hazardous chemicals and toxic fumes requiring the wearing of uncomfortable protective devices including respirators and impermeable rubber suits.

Army Tank-Automotive and Armament Command (TACOM)

Civilian employees serve a vital role in supporting the Army mission. They provide the skills that are not readily available in the military, but crucial to support military operations.   • The Modified Term announcement appointed from stated the potential for subsequent conversion to a career-conditional or career appointment; and
  • Must have completed at least 2 years of current continuous service under a term appointment in the competitive service.
  • Performance rating showing they have performed at an acceptable level.
