About the Position: This position is located at Fox Army Health Center (FAHC) in Huntsville, Alabama, within the Outpatient Mental Health Clinic. Normal working hours are 0730 to 1600, Monday through Friday, with no weekend or federal holiday requirements.

Duties

Help
  • Conduct rigorous biopsychosocial assessments diagnose mental health conditions using the DSM-5-TR and deliver targeted individual and group therapy for both acute and chronic conditions.
  • Evaluate treatment effectiveness using objectives and measurable outcomes and makes appropriate adjustments for increased compliance and efficacy.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation of patient care in accordance with current unit and hospital standard operating procedures (SOPs) and current DoD, DHA Federal and state regulations.
  • Manage high-risk patients (e.g., trauma, suicidality), provide crisis intervention, and serve as a consultant to both multidisciplinary medical teams and military commanders regarding service member readiness, duty limitations, and safety planning.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate professional development activities, coordinate inter and intra-departmental in-service training on Mental Health related topics.

  • This position is designated as moderate risk involving Public Trust. Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation including a credit check to determine suitability for Federal employment and/or the position.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.

  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random drug testing, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position is required to be screened for and obtain necessary immunizations/vaccinations (hepatitis, influenza, etc.), unless exempted by a licensed physician.
  • This position is subject to TDY or business travel requirements to various locations.
  • This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
  • This position requires a current, active, valid, and unrestricted clinical license to practice Psychology independently offered by a U.S. State, District of Columbia, Commonwealth, territory, or jurisdiction.
  • Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for Clinical Psychologist (Mental Health):

Degree:
Doctoral Degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) directly related to the full professional work in clinical psychology.

In addition to meeting the basic requirements above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting psychological evaluations, providing individual or group counseling services, and implementing therapeutic treatment plans.This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Licensure: A current, active, valid, and unrestricted clinical license to practice Psychology independently from a U.S. State, the District of Columbia, Commonwealth, territory, or jurisdiction is required.

Education

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
