This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: This is a Firefighter (Basic Life Support), GS-0081-07, position US Army Aviation Center of Excellence located in Fort Rucker, Alabama. Duties

Help
  • Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer or governmental fire department or brigade.

  • This position requires heavy physical lifting up to 45 pounds, climb ladders up to 100 feet, climb in and over obstacles and move charged fire hose lines.
  • This position requires the employee to wear a uniform and/or protective clothing.
  • This position is subject to recall for all firefighting emergencies.
  • This position is an inclement weather position.
  • This position is mission essential in support of unscheduled installation training missions.
  • This position requires the incumbent to work a 106 hours or a 144 hours bi-weekly tour of duty

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience (1) Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military installation, volunteer or governmental fire department or brigade; (2) Rescue operations; (3) Detection, reduction or elimination of potential fire hazards; (4) Operation of fire communications equipment; (5) Controlling hazardous materials incident and/or Developing implementing or providing training. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

In addition to Specialized Experience, the position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications:

  • Firefighter I & II,
  • Valid State Driver's License,
  • Driver Operator - Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF),
  • Pumper and ARFF
  • Airport Firefighter,
  • National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) Basic.

This position requires that the individual possess and maintain the following DoD IFSAC or Pro-Board issued certifications.NOTE: For each certification listed above, you MUST submit a copy of all licenses and certifications with your application package, or you will be rated in-eligible.

Education

U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command

This position is located at Ft. Rucker, Alabama, home of the United States Army Aviation Center of Excellence. Fort Rucker is located in the "Wiregrass" area in Southeast Alabama, surrounded by Enterprise, Ozark and Daleville. The geography and climate are ideal for year round military training. Recreation activities are abundant in the immediate and surrounding areas for family and fun.
