Checks work in progress and, when finished, checks for compliance with supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines.
Maintains close liaison with commercial railroads receiving information.
Inspects, maintains, repairs, and improves railroad track and associated appurtenances.
Responsible for on-site coordination of train makeup, movement, and train crew activities including enforcement of safety rules, operating restrictions, track use requirements and work schedules.
Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
A SECRET Security Clearance is required.
Must be cleared IAW requirements of AR 190-11, Physical Security of Arms, Ammunition, and Explosives (AA and E).
Must meet the requirements of AMCR 350-4, Training and Certification program for Personnel Working in Ammunition Operations.
Subject to drug testing IAW AR 600-85.
Subject to the Lautenberg Amendment.
Obtain and maintain a Locomotive Engineer license/certification.
Must successfully complete training in Hazardous waste management procedures within six (6) months after the date of appointment as well as an annual review of this training.

Leading others operating a diesel-electric locomotive including starting and stopping in a variety of conditions such as moderate grades; sharp curves; numerous turnout ramps; switches, around narrow building clearances; and busy and congested work areas, moving from 1 to 10 units of rail equipment. Operating locomotives in busy intersections without gates; congested areas; bad weather; and busy schedules. Having an understanding and comprehensive knowledge of a railroad yard and the required hand signals. And a thorough understanding of all rules and regulations governing safe operation of locomotives under all conditions. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Operation of Motor Vehicles
Work involves lifting and positioning moderately heavy objects weighing up to 20 pounds and, occasionally, with assistance handling objects weighing over 45 pounds, while loading or unloading cargo. Work performed requires climbing on and off stationary and moving cars, guiding and directing the coupling and uncoupling of cars, throwing switches, and walking along tops of flat cars. There is considerable walking over uneven surfaces on rails, ties, and road beds and continuous physical activity in reaching, bending, turning, or moving feet and legs to manipulate equipment, controls, and track components.
Works outside in all kinds of weather conditions while loading or unloading vehicles. Work is performed where there is unpleasant dust, dirt, fumes, and noise from rail operations. Subject to cuts, scratches, and bruises from loading or unloading vehicles; also, to possible serious injury resulting from traffic accidents. Subject to danger from moving trains when visibility is low when coupling and/or uncoupling cars, blocking wheels, etc. Subject to eye hazard from chipping metal and hazards inherent while working under cars and engines.
