Duties

Help
  • Provide day-to-day oversight and staff supervision over actions relating to the core mission of The Institute of Heraldry (TIOH) which is to provide heraldic services to the Executive Office of the President, the DoD and all other Federal Agencies.
  • Ensure development contracts adhere to established timelines, project completion requirements, quality assurance standards and specifications, and manufacturing drawings and patterns.
  • Execute the Army heraldic program for all heraldic items used by the DoD, Army, Air Force and Marine Corps. Heraldic items include all symbolic items approved for official use including those for wear, display or authentication of documents.
  • Plan, coordinate, and direct programs for the technical phases of development of metal and textile heraldic items (production of prototypes and standard samples, preparation and coordination of specification, etc.).
  • Oversee quality control of heraldic items manufactured for sale through the Army, Air Force Exchange Service, the Marine Corps Exchange Service and commercial outlets to military units, personnel and Federal Agencies.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing technical oversight for the design and manufacturing of specialized metal and textile items for a national-level heraldic or symbolic program; advising senior executive-level leadership on national symbolism policy; directing the technical development of metal and textile products (e.g., decorations, medals, flags), including the creation of technical data packages, prototypes, and specifications to ensure quality control in manufacturing. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-13).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience above in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualifications requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
