Duties

Help

  • Assists in monitoring the operations of the dining facility or assigned area, supporting the manager and assistant manager, particularly during periods when higher-level supervision is limited.
  • Prepares detailed reports of significant occurrences during the assigned shift, contributing to accurate operational record-keeping.
  • Reviews the schedule of functions and activities planned by management for the shift and actively assists in ensuring their successful execution.
  • Provides substantive clerical support for technical, administrative, and operational requirements, aiding in efficient workflow and organization.
  • Assists with inventory management, including issuing and receiving supplies and materials, ensuring proper documentation and stock control.
  • Actively supports the enforcement of dining facility rules, regulations, and established procedures, ensuring compliance and maintaining order.
  • Assists in resolving customer complaints and problems, working to ensure patron satisfaction and escalating complex issues to the supervisor or DFAC Manager.
  • Provides guidance and training to other dining facility staff members, supporting their understanding of functions and procedures during the shift, under the direction of the supervisor.
  • Conducts inspections of the facility to ensure cleanliness, sanitation, and proper maintenance, reporting any discrepancies or concerns to the appropriate personnel.
  • Assists in securing the facility at the end of the shift, ensuring all procedures are followed to protect assets and maintain safety.
  • Maintains cleanliness and sanitation of work areas, including serving stations, dining areas, and food preparation areas.
  • Operates cash register and/or point-of-sale (POS) system accurately, handling cash, credit cards, and meal cards.
  • Monitors stock levels of food, beverages, and expendable supplies, notifying the supervisor of low stock levels or potential shortages.
  • Assists in gathering customer feedback and reporting it to the supervisor or DFAC manager.

The area of consideration for this vacancy announcement is citizens, permanent residents, and legal residents of the United States (US) who reside within the local commuting area (60 mile radius) of RAF Croughton, United Kingdom (UK), or will do so within the next 30 days.

Permanent and legal residents of the US must be citizens of a NATO country, unless authorized to reside in the UK as a dependent of an employee who serves in support of the US Visiting Forces. Eligible applicants must possess a US-issued social security number and be able to provide documentation proving residency status in the UK. Documentation could include PCS Orders, UK Visa, etc.

Applicants cannot be 'ordinarily resident'. A person is considered to be 'ordinarily resident' if they have resided in the United Kingdom (UK) for more than 366 days without an affiliation to the US Visiting Forces. Time spent in the UK as an employee, or dependent of an employee, of a US agency serving and supporting the US Visiting Forces (i.e., active duty military, federal civilian, AAFES, Red Cross, one of the contract universities, a military banking facility or federal credit union, or US government contractors) is not counted toward being 'ordinary resident'.

In accordance with the Status of Forces Agreement between the US and the UK, British citizens (including UK dual citizens) may not apply for US NAF positions; however, they may be eligible to apply for local national positions on base.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience (MUST BE SUPPORTED IN RESUME):
  • High school diploma or equivalent. One (1) year of experience in food service or a related customer service environment.
  • Experience operating cash registers or point-of-sale (POS) systems is highly desirable.
  • Experience in inventory management or stock control is desirable.
  • Knowledge of basic food safety and sanitation procedures
  • Ability to follow established safety guidelines.
  • Ability to learn and apply dining facility rules and regulations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service and resolve minor complaints.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team Ability to interact professionally with customers and coworkers.
  • Ability to handle cash accurately.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment, such as computers and printers.

Education
