Help

Duties include but are limited to:

  • Performs general program support work such as the collection, compilation, research, and/or tracking of data and program information.
  • Prepares, executes, and/or tracks program specific information, such as a variety of informational requests, data for congressional inquiries, grants, business agreements, etc.
  • Utilizes a personal computer with a variety of software applications in order to perform the clerical work and to retrieve information from such databases/reports
  • Prepares statistical reports and other various workload reports relating to performance measures for providing services to veterans.
  • Prepares data in different formats for recurring reports concerning performance improvement projects, etc.
  • Performs information research functions such as general files, database searches, prepares detailed charts and graphs using various software.
  • Assist with timekeeper for designated T&L Unit and alternate timekeeper for other T&L Units as needed for coverage purposes.
  • Receives correspondence which are then screened on the basis of knowledge of the program or operations and refers to appropriate personnel for action.
  • Drafts replies to general inquiries, reviews correspondence for accuracy and completeness (grammar, punctuation, and format), gathers background information for replies to correspondence and preparation of reports, and distributing mail appropriately.
  • Receives and answers routine telephone inquiries. Conducts phone coverage when the other clerks are indisposed so that contact with the MHC is always available, may be asked to conduct call ahead phone calls.
  • Meets the needs of customers while supporting VA missions. Consistently communicates and treats customers (veterans, their representatives, visitors, and all VA staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner.
  • Handles conflict and problems in dealing with the customer constructively and appropriately.
Work Schedule: Full time, Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 05/20/2026.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.

You may qualify based on your experience as described below:

  • Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-5 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: skill and ability to compile and summarize information and data, identify inaccuracies or anomalies in the information, and make recommendations to resolve discrepancies based on interpretation of applicable regulations and procedures. Knowledge of personal computer applications and demonstrated ability to design and maintain spreadsheets and databases using software programs such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and VA programs such as VISTA, CPRS, and TMS systems.

Physical Requirements: Work is generally sedentary with walking, bending, and carrying of light items occasionally necessary. No special physical qualifications are required.
