Duties

Help
  • Operates computer to input/retrieve data.
  • Operates Range Control communication center.
  • Maintain a daily journal of pertinent information transmitted and received.
  • Provide guidance for Range Operations and Safety instructions, policy and procedures.
  • Conduct daily on-site surveys to ensure units are following range regulations.
  • Ensure unit training is being conducted in a safe manner.
  • Schedule range inspections with units based on training events posted on the Range Control daily activity calendar.
  • Ensure ranges, training areas and facilities are maintained and utilized according to the Range Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Conduct inspections when units have completed training.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to pass successfully a Range Safety Certification Examination.
  • The incumbent must be able to acquire and maintain a valid state driver's license for operation of government vehicles in the performance of work.
  • The incumbent may require to work evenings, holidays and/or weekend hours.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Implementing operating procedures related to safety training exercises and/or activity areas; 2) Enforcing organizational policies and procedures related to range safety, emergency procedures and range maintenance; 3) Operating various automated computer programs; and 4) Utilizing communications equipment such as radio and telephone to make voice contact with personnel who are training on ranges. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Education

  • Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is authorized, subject to the provisions of the Joint Travel Regulations.
  • This position may offer a relocation incentive to applicants if they are a current Federal government employee who is relocating from more than 50 miles from Fort McCoy. You will be required to sign a service agreement prior to your entry on duty.
  • This position may offer the Student Loan Repayment program (SLRP). Participants must sign a service agreement prior to your entry on duty and maintain an acceptable level of performance to remain eligible for this program.
  • Salary negotiations for candidates new to Federal service may be authorized.
  • Credit for prior non-Federal experience and certain military service for leave accrual rates MAY be authorized but must be established prior to entry on duty.
