About the Position: This position is located in the Directorate of Clinical Support, Radiology section of the Branch Medical Clinic Iwakuni located in Iwakuni, Japan.

Incumbent serves as a Diagnostic Sonographic expert providing specialty skills in Sonography for all consulting services, to include specialized diagnostic invasive and non-invasive service to fetal, pediatric, and adult patients with congenital and acquired disease, and obstetrical pregnancies.

Duties

Help
  • Perform complex diagnostic ultrasound examinations or procedures utilizing two-dimensional, three-dimensional, four-dimensional, flex view, color and pulsed Doppler.
  • Procedures are not limited to: Obstetrical Ultrasound, Invasive procedures, Pediatric Ultrasound, Endovaginal Ultrasound, Pelvic Ultrasound, Abdominal and Elastography Ultrasound, Small Parts, Musculoskeletal Ultrasound, and Vascular Ultrasound
  • Coordinate with multi-disciplinary care providers to provide ultrasound services.
  • Provide training on diagnostic medical ultrasound imaging to a variety of hospital personnel to ensure quality patient care.
  • Attend in-service training to stay up to date on new sonographic procedures, technology, and techniques.
  • Oversee operating guidelines and tracking of patients for ultrasound procedures to ensure compliance with the American Institute of Ultrasound Medicine (AIUM) and Joint Commission standards.

  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement. Applicants tentatively selected for appointment to this position will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations.
  • Required to be screened for and obtain necessary immunizations/vaccinations (hepatitis, influenza, etc.), unless exempted by a licensed physician.
  • This position is covered by the Civilian Drug Abuse Testing Program. The incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 335 "Condition of Employment for Certain Civilian Positions Identified as Critical Under the Drug Abuse Testing Program."
  • This position has a regular lifting requirement of up to 44 lbs. A pre-employment physical required and annually thereafter.
  • This position is required to work uncommon tours of duty hours such as, on-call, working either fixed or rotating shifts, evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
  • This position has a TDY or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • Incumbent is required to wear personal protective equipment.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) training certification.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a General Ultrasound License from American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement. Applicants will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing a variety of ultrasound examinations on human patients to include obstetrical ultrasounds; conducting quality assurance checks or maintaining ultrasound equipment; and coordinating with hospital personnel to schedule referral requests. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Education: One and a half years of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Sonography or Radiology from an accredited college or university. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages.

  • If an employee brings an infant or toddler (up to 3 years of age) to an overseas location, and that infant or toddler, but for the child's age, is entitled to attend the DoDEA on a space-required basis in accordance with DoDEA Regulation 1342.13, then the Military Department responsible for EIS will provide the infant or toddler with the required EIS in accordance with the eligibility criteria consistent with DoDI 1342.12 and DoDM 1342.12.
  • Employees (and family members) who require medical or dental care in the overseas location will be responsible for obtaining and paying for such care. Access for civilian employees and their families to military medical and dental treatment facilities is on a space-available and reimbursable basis only.
  • Pay retention may be offered to selected applicants for positions at overseas locations. Pay retention will not be offered as an incentive for employees moving between overseas positions.
  • Selectees may receive certain foreign area benefits such as: Living Quarters Allowance (LQA) or government quarters, home leave, etc. Selectees will have their eligibility for foreign area benefits determined at the time of hire in accordance with Department of State Standardized Regulation (DSSR) and DoDI 1400.25 volume 1250.
