Duties

Help
  • You will apply basic financial management procedures, processes, and methods to assist higher graded specialists in preparing budget and estimates to support plans, programs, and activities.
  • You will assist in reviewing and evaluating budget requests and reporting obligations and expenditures.
  • You will assist in compiling financial data or information, maintain records, prepare data for automated financial systems and draft preliminary synopses of audits or financial reports.

  • You must obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance and access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI). Failure to do so may result in the withdrawal of an offer or removal. Indicate the level and date of your clearance in your resume.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You must acknowledge in writing that you are accepting an appointment in the DCIPS (excepted service) which does not confer competitive status, prior to appointment.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Must be accepted for enrollment or enrolled in school on at least a half-time basis.
  • Students must possess a 2.5 GPA or higher by June 30, 2027, and must maintain this GPA to remain eligible for the program.

Qualifications

ELIGIBILITY:

To be eligible for the GG-07, you must meet the following required education level: Completion of 1 academic year of graduate level education, or do you have a bachelor's degree or have completed 5 academic years of pre-professional study.

All educational requirements for this position must be met by June 30, 2027.

Program Completion and Conversion:

Interns may be converted at the discretion of the agency to a permanent position (or, in some limited circumstances, to a term position lasting 1-5 years) within 120 days of successful completion of the program.

To be eligible for conversion, Interns must:

- Be a U.S. Citizen
- Complete at least 160-320 hours of work experience acquired through the Student Internship Program
- Complete their degree requirements
- Meet the qualification standards for the position to which the Intern will be converted
- Perform their job successfully

NOTE: Students who convert to a permanent position may be eligible for a Recruitment/Relocation or Student Loan Repayment Incentive as the discretion of the agency.

Education

QUALIFYING EDUCATION:

1) A high school whose curriculum has been approved by a State or local governing body, or a home-school curriculum that has been approved by such body or state.

AND

2) Any of the following educational institutions or curricula that have been accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the secretary of the U.S. Department of Education:

(i) A high school or home-school curriculum;
(ii) A technical, vocational, or trade school;
(iii) A 2-year or 4-year college or university;
(iv) A graduate or professional school (e.g., law school, medical school); or
(v) Other accredited educational institution.

Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the qualification requirements, if the applicant can provide documentation indicating that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States. Applications will be accepted from students who expect to complete qualifying education by June 30, 2027. However, agencies are required to verify that the education has been completed successfully before any applicant can be appointed (report to work); therefore, your selection or start date may be impacted by proof and completion of all position requirements.

Additional information

This position will be recruiting students for the summer of 2027, though may tentatively start earlier if all security requirements are cleared and Education/Eligibility requirements are met.

Students will typically work a full-time schedule (40 hours per week) and will have to commit to working 160-320 hours during the summer months.

You may be noncompetitively converted to a permanent career-conditional or career appointment under specific conditions outlined in the qualifications section of this announcement.

Appointment may be extended beyond initial 364 days if student maintains enrollment.

All Defense Intelligence positions under the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS) are in the excepted service by specific statute, 10 U.S.C. 1601.

This position is in the excepted service and does not confer competitive status.

Naval Intelligence Activity

The mission of the Naval Intelligence Activity is to direct, oversee, and manage the collection, analysis, production, and dissemination of maritime intelligence in support of Department of the Navy, Department of Defense, Intelligence Community (IC), and national decision makers. Fundamental to its oversight and management functions, NIA ensures that resources are properly allocated and effectively used in the acquisition, procurement, and sustainment of intelligence systems. It is additionally tasked with synchronizing intelligence activities across the Naval Intelligence Enterprise with other IC elements. As a secondary mission, NIA is tasked with providing direct support to the Director of Naval Intelligence, and other elements of the Chief of Naval Operations staff, as directed.
