This is a DON Pathways Internship Program position. You will serve as a Student Trainee (AI/ML Research Program Support) in the Office of the ASN EI-E WASHINGTON DC (Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Energy, Installations, end Environment (OASN (E&IE).

This internship is temporary not to exceed one year.

Duties

  • As an Intern you will support senior officials in the Navy Secretariat using Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) tools.
  • You will provide support to the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Energy, Installations and Environment which formulates Department-wide policies and procedures for Navy and Marine Corps energy.
  • You will support infrastructure sustainment, restoration and modernization; military construction; acquisition, utilization and disposal of real property and facilities.
  • You will support environmental protection, planning, restoration and natural resources conservation, and safety and occupational health.
  • You will assist in collecting and processing data, running established analytical models, and drafting components of reports and briefings.
  • You will work closely with team members to complete assigned tasks that contribute to larger projects.
  • You will assist senior analysts in conducting research projects by gathering, compiling, and organizing data from various sources.
  • You will assist in the preparation of research outputs by drafting sections of reports, creating basic charts and tables, and verifying factual information.

Qualifications

You must be currently enrolled at least half-time or have been accepted for enrollment in a master's degree (or more advanced degree) program from an accredited or pre-accredited institution.

To be eligible for the GS-0399-07, you must meet the following required education level:

Completion of 1 full academic year of graduate level education;

-OR-

Eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement Provision and completion of a bachelor's degree.

Education

All education beyond high school must be accredited by an accrediting body or organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education;

Additional information

No PCS costs will be paid.

Interns may be converted to a permanent position (or, in some limited circumstances, to a term position lasting 1-4 years) within 120 days of successful completion of the program.
To be eligible for conversion, Interns must:
Complete at least 480 hours of work experience acquired through the Internship Program.
Complete their degree or certificate requirements.
Meet the qualification standards for the position to which the Intern will be converted.
Meet agency-specific requirements as specified in the Participant's Agreement, and
Perform their job successfully.

PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY:

Applicants must be a U.S. citizen and a current student enrolled in:
1) An accredited college (including technical, vocational trade schools, two or four year colleges/universities);

3) A Certificate Program in a qualifying educational institution, equivalent to at least one academic year of full-time study, that is part of an accredited, college-level, technical, trade, vocational or business school curriculum.
