Duties

Help
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance.
  • Operate a variety of boom cranes, forklifts, and Class C Vehicles.
  • Repair or replace parts and components of various aviation ground support equipment.
  • Conduct training and qualifies military and civilians on ground support equipment at operator's level.
  • Perform operational inspections, and ensures vehicles and equipment are properly serviced and other preventive maintenance performed, as scheduled.
  • Operate a variety of heavy lift forklifts, requiring OSHA certification for power industrial forklift.

  • Pre-employment physical and annual physicals while in position.
  • This is a drug testing position and you must pass urinalysis testing as required prior to appointment and periodically thereafter. Must sign DA Form 5019-R.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid forklift and military driver's license.
  • May be required to work rotating shifts, overtime, weekends, holidays, and/or on-call duty hours.
  • This is a Moderate risk, Public Trust position. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust (T2) security clearance.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an POWERED SUPPORT SYSTEMS MECHANIC without more than normal supervision.This includes broad experience with various types of aviation ground support equipment in order to correct equipment malfunctions. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision
  • Physical Effort: Performs work, which involves frequent bending, reaching, crouching, standing, and arm movement. Works in awkward positions or cramped areas. Frequently lifts parts and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Occasionally lifts items weighing up to 75 pounds using jacks, hoists, or helpers. Subject to strain caused by vibrations of the crane, and from jerking and jolting motion while lifting and moving loads.
  • Working Conditions: Most work is done inside where it is frequently noisy, drafty, and fumes from vehicles are usually present. Occasionally performs repairs outside, sometimes during bad weather. Dirt, dust, and grease are always present. Vehicle fluids such as battery acid and hydraulic fluid may cause skin irritation or burns. There is frequent exposure to the possibility of bruises, cuts, shocks, burns, and strains. Works in noise hazard areas, requiring an annual audiometric evaluation. Exposed to the possibility of injury caused by swinging loads or from the crane overturning.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

  • This is a Mission Essential position: If this area experiences severe weather conditions that result in the installation being closed for normal business operations, you are still required to report for or remain on duty to maintain infrastructure operations, health, safety, and security.
  • Position has been designated as Key: This position shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization without seriously impairing the capability of the agency to function effectively. Because of the essential nature of this position, shall require that it not be filled by members of the National Guard, Ready Reservists or military retirees with recall obligations to preclude such position from being vacated during a mobilization.
