Duties

Help
  • You will support senior quality assurance specialists while executing reviews, surveillances, and audits to evaluate technical and administrative operations conformance to procedural, technical, and quality assurance requirements.
  • You will collect data from surveillances, audits, deficiency reports, and examinations.
  • You will utilize statistical analysis techniques and causal analysis to evaluate effectiveness of production processes and inspection systems, detect trends, and identify areas for improvement.
  • You will assist with the preparation of assessment reports of analysis conclusions.
  • You will review material certification, inspection, and test results of production, inspection personnel, or contractors to ensure technical adequacy and compliance with technical requirements.
  • You will obtain information from databases, technical requirement documents, and other systems; maintain and retrieve historical records; and input data into record systems.
  • You will receive on-the-job training by observing senior quality assurance staff in performance of quality management duties or performing work under observation.

  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Work is performed in the office, inside shops, aboard ships, under all weather conditions, and in confined spaces.
  • You will be required to climb ladders and scaffolding.

Qualifications

The Upward Mobility Program is a unique job opportunity. This program is designed to provide career growth opportunities for those who have potential but do not presently meet the Office of Personnel Management qualification requirements for this position. The entry level for this position is GS-09 with a full performance level of GS-11.

Knowledge of employees selected may vary and will require the development of an individually tailored training plan to assist them in qualifying for the full performance level of this position. Eligibility requires that the employee be performing satisfactorily, complete all training requirements, acquire the requisite qualifications and have met time-in-grade eligibility for career ladder promotions.

This recruitment is open to current DoD Military Spouse Preference (MSP) eligibles with experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing quality inspections and assisting with quality assurance audits on submarine components, equipment and systems.

Pay Retention will be extended to eligible Federal Government employees selected for this formal employee development program.

This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

You may be noncompetitively promoted to the next higher grade level after meeting all regulatory requirements, and upon the recommendation of management. Promotion is neither implied nor guaranteed.
