Duties

Help
  • You will serve as Station Chief with duties to direct f firefighting activities and assignments for the crew or crews in hazardous environments, until receiving instructions from a Chief Officer.
  • You will assist the shift supervisor with planning work schedules and the sequence of operations to ensure an even flow and distribution of work at the fire station.
  • You will direct crews in the performance of various standby duties at the station, including maintenance and inspection of equipment, execution of training, drills and the performance of low-risk fire prevention inspections.
  • You will direct/assign crews to apparatus for the proper care and treatment of victims of accidents or medical emergencies.
  • You will respond to emergency incident scenes and take charge of the firefighting operations, and determine best utilization of firefighters and equipment for combating/mitigating hazardous environment in the absence of the shift supervisor,
  • You will instruct crew members by conducting lectures and drills concerning emergency medical services, firefighting techniques, and fire protection and prevention methods.
  • You will instruct crew mwmbers by leading lectures and drills concerning fire fighting techniques and fire protections and prevention methods.
  • You will oversee attendance and leave, including approval of sick leave and annual leave in abense of shift supervisor.
  • You will ensure implementation of approved department guidelines, policies, rules and regulation, practises and procedures of the branch.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • In accordance with DoD 1400.25 SC 336.5.2.1, the maximum initial entry age for first appointment in the Department of Defense to a covered primary or rigorous firefighter position is 37.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You must possess a valid driver's license and be able to obtain a Government Emergency Vehicle Operators License within 90 days of employment and maintain such.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • Maintains professional certification in accordance with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA)/DoD Standards, and Department of Transportation (DoT) "First Responder "or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) level as a minimum.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: leading and directing work associated with fire suppression and prevention, performing emergency medical treatment and ambulance transport services, emergency communications, and public education and training services.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Additional information

You must be a competent firefighter in structural, aircraft, wildland, emergency medical, hazardous materials, urban search and rescue, emergency services commnications, and fire prevention activities. At the time of appointment, you must possess a valid State Driver's License, certification with the Department of Defense Emergency Vehicle Operators Course (DOD/EVOC), California State Emergency Medical Technician (EMT/AED), Firefighter I, and obtain Inland County Emergency Medical Agency (ICEMA) status within 60 days of hire. You must be certified at the appropriate firefighter certification levels as outlined in the DODI 6055.6.M, Department of Defense (DOD) Fire Emergency Services Certification Program.

Required working 72-hour workweek and being subject to recall during off duty hours. Position is Secondary Rigorous with Special Retirement Coverage (SRC), must have 3 years primary rigorous to be eligible.
