Duties

Help
  • You will develop fire and life safety inspection programs for fire suppression personnel.
  • You will develop long-range plans (e.g., facilities, manpower and material resources, training programs, prevention and suppression techniques) for a fire program.
  • You will inspect equipment (e.g., fire extinguisher, sprinkler systems, exits) to verify they are fully operational and meet regulatory requirements.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination. Position requires incumbent pass an anuual physical.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • Position is embedded and can be either a 40- or 56-hour work week based on certifications.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • This position falls under the respiratory protection program and hearing conservation program.
  • Position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth.

Qualifications

GS-12
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Demonstrates expert knowledge of program management processes and procedures to include experience in identifying and prioritizing fire prevention and code occupational requirements for sustainment of mission needs; 2) Possesses thorough knowledge of national, DoD, Navy & local fire codes, standards, regulations, and instructions in order to interpret and apply applicable codes to detect and eliminate fire & life safety hazards; 3) Uses skills in selecting the applicable code or standard relevant to particular types of facilities and hazards, type of construction and other variables; 4) Analyzes and interprets codes & standards to make compliance determinations; 5) Possesses clear oral communication and public speaking skills which are required in order to provide fire and life safety training and events; 6) Possesses skills in writing reports, case notes, briefings, instructions & regulations, and written correspondence; and 7) Demonstrates knowledge in post-fire investigation cause and origination techniques and theory.

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:***This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications: Position is either a 40 hour / 80 hour bi-weekly or a 56 hour / 112 hour bi-weekly work schedule based on candidate certification(s) and eligibility:
- IFSAC, ProBoard or DoD Fire Firefighter I & II (Required for 56 hr work week)
- IFSAC, ProBoard or DoD Fire Instructor II
- IFSAC, ProBoard or DoD Fire Inspector II
- IFSAC, ProBoard, DoD Fire Inspector III or New 2025 NFPA 1030 IFSAC, ProBoard, DOD Fire Inspector (Required for GS12. GS11 must obtain within 1 year)
- IFSAC, ProBoard or DoD Fire Officer III
- IFSAC, ProBoard or DoD HazMat Awareness
- IFSAC, ProBoard or DoD HazMat Operations (Required for 56 hr work week)
- IFSAC, ProBoard or DoD Plans Examiner I (Required for GS12. GS11 must obtain within 1 year)
- CPR (American Heart Association "Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers" or equivalent)
- NREMT (Required for 56 hour work week)
- Emergency Vehicle Operations (EVOC)
- ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, and 800

Must be able to wear protective clothing and equipment; carry up to 100 lbs; work in extreme heat and cold under adverse conditions; must maintain alertness, self-control, and emotional stability; must climb ladders and work at various heights.

May be exposed to hazmat spills, unstable structures, and other situations requiring protective gear. May suffer injuries related to extreme weather, dehydration, residual products of combustion, and falling materials.
