Duties

Help

  • Perform the full spectrum of police officer duties within the assigned jurisdictions.
  • Conduct Investigations/Surveillance.
  • Perform as Base Defense Operations Center (BDOC) Controller.
  • Perform emergency response and incident command and control.
  • Responsible for Entry Control Point (ECP), Traffic Control Points (TCP), Assures criminal or Antiterrorism/Force Protection (AT/FP) measures are met to protect installation command and assure mission accomplishment.

  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position
  • Must pass an initial pre-employment medical examination, required initial and annual physical fitness/physical agility tests to include running, meet established hearing standards and discern colors, contrast, and depth
  • The incumbent must wear a DAF Police Officer uniform as identified in the DAF Police AFI and required to meet dress and appearance standards when supporting non DoD agencies IAW the AFI
  • Subject to duty position evaluation on a pass/fail standard in accordance with AFI 36-2646, Security Forces Training And Standardization Evaluation Programs
  • Incumbent will be exposed to the day-to-day dangers associated with law enforcement and security duties
  • This is a Mission Essential (ME) position performing a Mission Critical Function (MCF) which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions. IAW, DoDI 3020-42
  • Must pass formal law enforcement training school as determined by AF/A4S and obtain DoD Peace Officer Standardization and Training Certification
  • Must obtain and maintain a government travel card. Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station.

Qualifications

Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Police Series Positions, to include the Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) for the GS-0083 Police Series.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicant must have or within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement will have, at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-06), pay band or equivalent. Specialized experience is described as: knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills.

FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-­grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-06 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-07 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

  • Knowledge of law enforcement procedures, training requirements and operating methods required to perform the full range of police officer activities independently.
  • Knowledge of special operating requirements, methods, and procedures for enforcing specialized personnel access controls to prevent unauthorized access to areas where stringent security requirements are enforced.
  • Knowledge of appropriate use of force and self-defense techniques to protect oneself and others in threatening situations including the ability to subdue and control individuals as required.
  • Ability to operate motor vehicles have a gross weight of 7,000 pounds or less, loading capacities of 1 ton or less, and 2 or 4 wheel drive to transport personnel and/or articles.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with community management, employees, and other law enforcement agencies.
ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • Incumbent is required to obtain first responder training/certifications in CPR techniques, self-aid buddy care, and first aid on the job and maintain annually.
  • Recurring training is required to keep the incumbent knowledgeable on the updated specialized tactics, techniques and procedures necessary for preparation and response to catastrophic events, terrorist attacks and related threats to installations.
  • Incumbent must possess a valid driver's license and be able to operate all security forces vehicles and installed equipment
  • Ability to employ 'infantry/SWAT' small unit tactics involving fire and maneuver, with rapid advancing movement between defensive positions, while wearing protective gear for extended periods of time, (e.g. Employing "Active Shooter" response tactics and techniques as a member of a small team is required).
  • Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
  • Must wear approved protective clothing such as body armor/ballistic plates, helmets, personal protective equipment, coats, boots, traffic vests and/or chemical protective equipment, (e.g. respirator mask).
  • The incumbent must obtain and maintain qualifications and/or certifications for the following: Flight Armorer, Active Vehicle Barrier, National Crime Information Center (NCIC), Emergency Management Systems, Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS), Standardized Field Sobriety Test (SFST), Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE), Security Forces Management Information System (SFMIS), Air Force Justice Information System (AFJIS), Evidence Management Portal (EMP), Evidence Management Collection Exchange (ECMX), Explosive Detection Device (EDD), Defense Data Exchange (DDEX), authoritative databases, Small Unmanned Aircraft System (SUAS), electronic booking stations, speed measurement devices, non-lethal weapons (e.g. neuromuscular incapacitating device (NMID), baton, etc.).
  • Must complete the following duty position evaluations (DPEs) within the first two years of employment and be successfully re-evaluated in accordance with standards listed in AFI 31-2646, Security Forces Training and Standardization Evaluation Program. The DPE qualifications must occur in this order; (1) Installation Entry Controller, (2) Patrolman/Security Response Team, (3) Alarm Monitor and (4) Base Defense Operations Center Controller/Dispatcher.
Physical Demands: The work requires, on a regular and recurring basis, considerable and strenuous physical exertion such as frequent climbing of multiple flights of stairs, and while on entry control, they will be lifting heavy bollards weighing over 50 pounds. It requires stamina, physical agility and dexterity and the strength to pursue, apprehend or detain. This position requires the performance of a Physical Agility Test which reflects the bona-fide occupational physical qualifications for the position.

Work Environment: The work involves moderate and high risks and possible endangerment of life or serious injury that requires the exercise of safety precautions and use of personal protective equipment such as ballistic vests, coats, gloves, boots, goggles, masks, shields, etc. The work is performed in settings in which there is regular and recurring exposure to moderate discomforts and unpleasantness, such as high levels of noise in industrial settings, high temperatures in confined spaces, or adverse weather conditions during extended periods of traffic and patrol duties. The work involves moderate risk requiring exercise of safety precautions when working around hazardous materials such as toxic gases, explosives, infectious biological materials, and others that pose a moderate risk of exposure. The work also involves moderate risk and discomfort when working outdoors without shelter or operating vehicles for extended periods of time over rough terrain. The work also involves working with persons who present a physical risk of harm to the incumbent.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
