Help

  • Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of 673 Security Forces Squadron, ensuring that Combat Arms and Armory section complies with legal and regulatory requirements and meets customer needs.
  • Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities.
  • Represents Combat Arms and Armory section with a variety of installation and functional area organizations.
  • Maintains professional and technical expertise and coordinates program support requirements.
  • Trains students through assigned blocks of instruction at basic and/or advanced technician levels for small arms courses.

  • Incumbent must be qualified in the use of required weapons, as the incumbent will be required to use firearms in performing duties.
  • Incumbent must be able to operate all Security Forces Vehicles and installed equipment. The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. (Cont'd)

  • (Cont'd) Employee must sign DD Form 2760, Qualification to Possess Firearms or Ammunition.
  • May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours and/or Shift work may be required which may include overtime and/or irregular hours.
  • May be required to wear special protective clothing such as ear/eye protection, goggles, coats, boots, vests, helmets and/or chemical protective equipment. May be exposed to high level of noise such as weapons firing.
  • Must wear a uniform and meet applicable dress and appearance standards as identified in current AFI.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft/vehicle to conferences, meetings, or functions away from the duty office/location. Travel may include overnight stays.
  • This is a Mission-Essential position performing a Mission-Critical-Function which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions. (Cont'd in Qualifications)..

Qualifications

  • The duties of this position meet all requirements as a category 4 designation, and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization without seriously impairing the capability of the parent Federal Agency or office to function effectively. This position must be removed from the Ready Reserve and cannot become a member of the Ready Reserve. (IAW: DoDD 1200.7, "Screening the Ready Reserve,")
  • Subject to annual duty position evaluation on a pass/fail standard.
  • Graduation from the Combat Arms Training and Maintenance Apprentice Course and Combat Arms Training and Maintenance Craftsmen Course is desirable. (Reference AFI 36-2226).
  • Certificate in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation is required.
  • Must pass an initial pre-employment medical examination, periodic medical examinations, required physical fitness/physical agility tests including running events, meet established hearing standards and discern colors, contrast, and depth. The incumbent must immediately report to his supervisor any significant medical threshold shifts in health status and/or medication requirements.
  • Must pass formal law enforcement training school as determined by functional; certificate from a federally recognized Law Enforcement Academy is preferred.
  • Recurring training is required to keep the incumbent knowledgeable on the updated specialized tactics, techniques and procedures necessary for preparation and response to catastrophic events, terrorist attacks and related threats to installations.
  • The work requires regular and recurring physical exertion such as running in pursuits or emergency responses, long periods of standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, crawling, and similar activities. Employees engage in such exertions when responding to alarms and walking foot patrols in and around buildings. This position may require common physical characteristics and abilities and dexterity and the strength to pursue, and detain uncooperative suspects. In addition, this position requires the ability to employ "infantry" small unit tactics involving fire and maneuver with rapid advancing movement between defensive positions while wearing protective gear for extended periods of time, as well as the ability to employ "Active Shooter" response tactics as a member of a small team.
  • This position is designated as a key position IAW AFI 36-507. Duties of this position are essential to the accomplishment of wartime/contingency operations. Incumbents of key positions must be removed from their military recall status if alternative for filling of the position during an emergency are not available.
Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Police Series, GS-0083-09.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-08, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes, knowledge of appropriate management of weapons firing range requirements, management of the armory, and combat arms instruction activities and knowledge of police officer and security procedures and operating methods to involving the full range of police officer activities; to include the rights of detained individuals and organizational rules regarding the appropriate use of force to be used in the apprehension of persons, or the protection of organization resources and personnel. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time--in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-08 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

1. Knowledge of service-based programs and objectives, processes involved in military training programs such as overseeing United States Air Force Combat Arms Program or similar program.
2. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures.
3. Skill in handling and firing small arms in work environments similar to military security and tactical operations.
4. Ability to plan, organize, direct and mentor the function of a small to medium sized organization.
5. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; Ability to gather, develop, and analyze a variety of data and to make recommendations based on analysis; Ability to develop course materials and present formal and informal courses and briefings similar to Air Force Combat Arms program.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Tax Law Impact for PCS:
On 22-Dec-2017, Public Law 115-97 - the "Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017" suspended qualified moving expense deductions along with the exclusion for employer reimbursements and payments of moving expenses effective 01-Jan-2018 for tax years 2018 through 2025. The law made taxable certain reimbursements and other payments, including driving mileage, airfare and lodging expenses, en-route travel to the new duty station, and temporary storage of those items. The Federal Travel Regulation Bulletin (FTR) 18-05 issued by General Services Administration (GSA) has authorized agencies to use the Withholding Tax Allowance (WTA) and Relocation Income Tax Allowance (RITA) to pay for "substantially all" of the increased tax liability resulting from the "2018 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act" for certain eligible individuals.
