Help
  • As Senior Police Officer, the incumbent assess the overall operation methods and procedures to ensure law enforcement and security needs are adequately met for the installation.
  • Direct the workload among employees in accordance with established workflow or job specialization and assures timely accomplishment of the assigned workload.
  • Maintain status and progress of work and makes day-to-day adjustments in accordance with established priorities, obtaining assistance as necessary from the supervisor on problems that may arise.
  • Dispatch police units to activated alarms, emergency calls, and police service calls to conduct preliminary investigation and take charge of the crime or accident scene.
  • Take of statements of witnesses/suspects and detaining or apprehending at the scene of an incident/offense until release by proper authorities.
  • Brief every oncoming road patrol on new policies, changes in existing policies or other law enforcement related issues.
  • Inform new employees of policy and operating procedures and ensures standing operating procedures (SOP) are current and continuously updated.
  • Give direct law enforcement guidance and instruction to the desk sergeants and on-duty LE Officers. Provide guidance to DA Police Desk Sergeants and USAG Military Police Desk Sergeants.
  • Coordinate with other law enforcement agencies to gather facts and evidence, request assistance when needed, and share information.
  • Detain suspects of criminal offenses in the temporary confinement detention cell IAW AR 190-38. Inspect the detention cell to assure that it is clean and adequate in accordance with regulations.
  • Prepare Serious Incident Report for all incidents. Reviews all police reports for accuracy and grammar. Monitors, prepares and reviews the blotter for accuracy and grammar. Prepares and reviews the Desk Journal for accuracy and grammar.
  • Ensure background checks on traffic and criminal offenses are properly preformed using the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), which by regulation is limited to selected personnel.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 11. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • Successfully graduated from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy or complete within one year of hire date, unless incumbent has been grandfathered or has a current approved waiver from the Office of the Provost Marshal General.
  • Employee and prospective employee of this job are expected to maintain a high standard of conduct;
  • Employee must be assessed under the Individual Reliability Program for social adjustment, emotional stability, judgment, dependability, flexibility in adjusting to changes, ability to work under pressure or emergencies, and a positive attitude.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • Required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual physical agility test (PAT). Failure to meet the PAT requirements and standards after the second attempt within a ninety-day period will result in separation.
  • Position subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban (Lautenberg Amendment). This act bans individuals convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence and certain others from possession or access to firearms or ammunition.
  • This is a "Mission Essential" position, meaning that in the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • Subject to irregular and/or rotating shifts, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Incumbent is required to work overtime as directed and is subject to recall for emergency overtime.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
  • Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
  • The Omnibus Federal Budget Bill for Fiscal Year 2001 (Public Law 106-554) requires removal of federal law enforcement officers convicted of felonies that occurred before (2001) the new law takes effect are not included in this requirement.
  • In accordance with Army Regulation 190-56 incumbent must be able to wear government-furnished police uniform and safety equipment (e.g., chemical protection masks must be snug to the face for personal protection).
  • In accordance with Army Regulation 190-56 incumbent must be able to be qualified and certified in the use of chemical aerosol irritants, tear gas, radar gun and breathalyzer equipment.
  • Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • Must be able to pass training, certification and qualification requirements related Law Enforcement work. These include, but not limited to: weapons qualifications, first aid CPR and National Incident Management System training.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service which includes 1) Providing guidance related to law enforcement duties to other police officers; 2) Dispatching police units in response to emergencies; 3) Detaining and interviewing crime suspects. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
