Duties

Help
  • You will maintain and administer the technical and administrative library.
  • You will process materials received, including drawings, messages, manuals, technical documents, correspondence, or other items.
  • You will validate the status and currency of documents, both materials received and electronic documents maintained at remote sites, to ensure that Shipyard users are advised of the latest versions of documents.
  • You will provide complete naval message services, including electronic receipt and transmission, accurate and swift drafting of messages as directed by Shipyard Watch Officer or other competent authority.
  • You will determine end-of-life for Record copies of Navy documents, archive as indicated, and maintain record of the disposition of items.
  • You will order all technical documents and drawing needed to support PSNS and IMF workforce; determine which materials are needed using customer input, advice from Lead or supervisor, and schedules of ship projects and availabilities.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position requires that the selectee be willing and able to climb ladders and scaffolding.
  • This position requires that the selectee be willing and able to lift and/or carry loads/items up to 50 pounds in weight.

Qualifications

For the GS-07 Level: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-06) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector: applying library methods and procedures to maintain a technical library, such as processing and indexing technical documents, and assisting customers with the research and retrieval of materials.

For the GS-06 Level: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-05) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector: assisting with the maintenance of a technical library by applying established library procedures to process, index, and circulate technical materials, and providing customer service to locate requested documents.

For the GS-05 Level: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-04) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector: performing a range of library support tasks, such as searching for requested materials, processing incoming documents using established procedures, and tracking the circulation of library items using an automated system.

For the GS-04 Level: Your resume must demonstrate at least six months of general experience and six months of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-03) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. General experience is: progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience includes: performing basic clerical or library tasks such as filing or retrieving documents, making copies, and answering routine questions.
