Help

The incumbent diagnoses and performs repairs and maintenance to mechanical and electrical equipment assigned to Environmental Management Section/Service (EMS). The incumbent orders supplies, establishes reorder levels, and monitors usage. The incumbent monitors section Consolidated Memorandum Receipts (CMR) and conducts periodic and annual inventories of all equipment items assigned to section. The incumbent maintains equipment catalog listing and evaluates new equipment for adaptability to Service requirements.

The incumbent will analyze electrical repairs, complete the repair, with proper test equipment and maintenance manuals, or issue a work order for more extensive repairs to the appropriate shop for repair by journeyman level staff. Repairs considered as appropriate for the incumbent consist of the following: repair or replace electrical cords and plugs, repair or replace micro switches. replace light bulbs on vacuum cleaners, inspect and replace electrical motor brushes on equipment as required, test batteries weekly on the battery-operated automatic scrubbers with a hydrometer for specific gravity, maintain battery chargers and charge batteries, replace batteries when required, and repair or replace water pump on the carpet soil extractor when required.

The incumbent is responsible for the issuance and return of mechanical equipment and machinery used by the EMS. The incumbent performs preventive minor maintenance required on the mechanical and electrical equipment used by' the EMS. The minor maintenance consists of inspecting. tightening, cleaning, adjusting, and lubricating mechanical and electrical equipment listed above. The incumbent scrapes sandblasts and recoat with epoxy chemical solution holding tanks on the battery-operated automatic scrubbing machines.

The incumbent performs maintenance consisting of replacing batteries, drive belts, switches, hoses, chains, drive assemblies, and brushes, as well as pulling wheels. cleaning and repacking with lubrication as needed.

The incumbent identifies parts to be ordered, researches catalogs for ordering data and submits information for ordering. The incumbent prepares work orders for submission to Engineering Section to accomplish repairs of equipment and follows up on such requests on a weekly basis for completion data.

The incumbent is responsible for the operation of EMS's Central Supply Room. This includes warehousing and storage, as well as maintenance of inventory, of all materials and supplies utilized in the EMS.

The incumbent reduces supplies and materials from bulk form to dispensable quantities, property marking containers as to content and directions for use and application. The incumbent conducts monthly inventories of 10 percent of the items listed on section C MR. and reports the results to the Chief, EMS, through the assigned housekeeping supervisor. The incumbent initiates action to replace VA serial numbers when required for CIMR items.

The incumbent assists in the annual CMR Inventory Audit of property. The incumbent vacuums. spot cleans and shampoos upholstered furniture as required. Incumbent repairs furniture consisting of replacing or repairing arms, legs, casters, cushions, screws, nuts and bolts, etc.

The incumbent drafts work orders for repairs beyond the scope of replacement of parts and repair at his/her level. Performs other related duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Physical work of the position requires walking, stooping, bending, pushing, and lifting (up to 50 pounds). Incumbent may be required to use a six-foot ladder, hydraulic extension platform or scaffolding. Incumbent may be required to use hand truck and dollies. Other workers will be available for assistance when required.

The incumbent is subject to cuts, bruises and scrapes from hand and power tools and exposure to dust and paint fumes. Incumbent will be exposed to various chemicals such as floor strippers, glass cleaners, detergents, germicides, ammoniated carpet cleaners, rust eradicators, etc.
