Duties

Help

I. Maintains a specified area in an orderly and clean manner. Vacuum cleans rugs. and draperies. Sweeps, mops, strips, scrubs, waxes, and polishes floors using industrial type power equipment. Adjusts and changes buffers, brushes and other attachments on power equipment. Dusts, waxes, and polishes furniture. Dusts ledges and woodwork. Empties ashtrays and wastebaskets. Polishes door knobs and other metal fixtures. Cleans glass partitions, inside and outside windows, using stepladders and extension ladders. Maintains restrooms in clean. orderly, and sanitary condition. Cleans, disinfects, and deodorizes, lavatories. urinals. and toilet bowls. Cleans, mirrors, and water fountains. Replaces deodorizers, toilet tissue, hand towels, and soap. Reports water leaks, clogged drains. and other conditions requiring maintenance to supervisor. Maintains supply of dealing materials. and advises supervisor when more supplies are needed. or when equipment needs repair or replacement.

2. Preforms seasonal tasks as required, such as. applying ice control material to entrances of buildings, shoveling snow. picking up litter around buildings, mowing grass, and watering lawns around buildings. Must be available to work weekends and holidays as needed.

3. Preforms other related duties as assigned. Position is a position of trust.

CONTROLS OVER WORK: Work is assigned either orally or through written work schedule from supervisor who provides only general instructions on the work to be done. Incumbent plans sequence of tasks and selects equipment and cleaning agents.

OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS:

1. Skill and knowledge: Must know the proper uses of a variety of special cleaning and sanitizing solutions and how to remove different kinds of stains from a wide variety of surfaces. Must be able to clean and make adjustments to power cleaning equipment.

2. Physical Effort: Moderately heavy physical effort is required. Heavy lifting occasionally 50 pounds or more; pushing and moving furniture; work from ladders.

3. Working Conditions: Usually works indoors and occasionally outdoors. In contact with strong cleaning agents. Danger of falls or slippery surfaces or when working on ladders and when using heavy power equipment.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience:

Must have skill in the proper use of cleaning and sanitizing solutions. Must be able to clean and make adjustments to powered cleaning equipment. Must be able to perform the full range of cleaning duties. Must be able to follow oral and/or written instructions involving duties with several distinct tasks or steps. Must be physically able to occasionally lift and carry objects weighting 50 pounds or more. Must be able to continuously stand. bend, stoop, and reach for long periods of time. Must satisfactorily complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).

Consistently accomplishes tasks in a timely manner following instructions provided by supervisor. Properly uses. cleans, and accounts for tools required to accomplish assigned duties. Consistently operates hand tools in a safe manner. applying established safety regulations to minimize and avoid violations due to employee error or negligence. Strictly follows safety and security instructions. Promptly informs supervisor of accidents and/or damages to supplies. equipment, or vehicles and of any observed unsafe practices and/or procedures in a timely manner according to established policies and procedures. Uses and assures proper fit of required safety equipment and clothing.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does allow for education substitution.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
