Help

As a/an Outreach and Marketing Specialist at theGS- 1101-12, some of your typical work assignments may include:


Media Relations & Communications - Promotes and/or develops new releases, SBA featured story ideas and Op-Eds for the Media.

Produce feature stories for the media on successful businesses that have received SBA assistance including official SBA Success Stories and other stories which are pitched to the media that reflect the current trends and developments at SBA programs and services (such as but not limited to SBA loan volume trends and special initiatives).

Act as the region point of contact for disaster media coverage and will distribute disaster press releases as requested by the Office of Disaster Assistance or OCPL.

Serves as a media communication liaison by coordinating media inquiries, drafting talking points and public-facing materials, supporting leadership engagement, monitoring media coverage, and ensuring all communication is accurate, timely, and cleared through appropriate agency channels.

Partnering - Build and maintain a local network of collaborative partnerships: economic development practitioners in Federal, state, regional and local government, chambers of commerce, business and trade associations, financial institutions, educational institutions and civic/community organizations.

Outreach - Participate in or lead projects to accomplish outreach events and will be expected to collaborate with others on the team and other resources to ensure that the projects are successful.

Compliance - Field technical representative responsible for compliance oversight of SBA district office customers. Conduct program evaluations, monitors and assesses awardee performance, ensures that grantees comply with terms and conditions of award, and reviews financial reports in accordance with associated SOP guidance.

Oral Communication - Represent the SBA at a variety of public functions through outreach/presentations/trainings in order to educate the small business, lender and contracting community about SBA programs and services, and other small business-relevant topics.

Other Local Marketing Duties - To be determined by the Regional Administrator or designee.

Qualifications

GS-12: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service, obtained in either the private or public sector that includes working independently in

  • building and managing collaborative alliances and partnerships with a variety of business development partners; and.
  • developing marketing strategy for programs and services for growth and development of a customer base; and
  • developing and delivering outreach, training, presentations and education on a variety of business management, financial management or lending topics related to small business; and
  • preparing press releases for media inquiries and communicating information to the press. These qualifications must be clearly referenced in your resume.
There is no education substitution for this grade level.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Generally, time in Non-Pay status as a federal employee is not creditable towards the specialized experience requirement listed above.
