Summary

Develops and prepares computer programs for three-dimensional contouring requiring simultaneous motion of three to six axes of machine tool motion by a variety of numerically controlled/computer numerically controlled (NC/CNC) equipment.
Develops sequence of machining operations required to produce the item utilizing the Computerized Interactive Graphics System or comparable software.
Prepares programming manuscript to include spindle speed and direction of rotation, automatic tool changes selection code, tool change code, coolant flow, direction and degree of table rotation, interlock bypasses, absolute positioning data,
cutting feeds, machine control unit routine setup data, programmed and optional stops, contouring feed rate number, spindle key lock orientation, and related
detail command required for such machining processes as milling, drilling, tapping, boring and reaming, etc.
Designs or participates in the design and layout of the necessary fixtures and special tooling for the NC/CNC equipment configuration, capabilities and capacities
as required to establish compatible dimensions and machining techniques for each programmed job.
Provides Engineering Draftsman or counterpart with basic measurement detail by preparing initial sketch and/or annotations on conventional drawings.
Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
Must be able to obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance for access to Depot Production Computer System.
This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 11. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
Position may be converted to permanent without further competition.
Temporary promotion may be made permanent or extended up to a maximum of five years.
Time Limited Detail NTE may be made permanent or extended at management discretion.
Temporary appointments may be extended in one year increments up to a maximum of three years.
